Hi Guys, need some help from you. Want to set up my new piston rings (gap) and wonder which direction they should be mounted on the piston.

The Package only says Bottom Groove, second and top groove - ok so far. No Instructions came with this set (it´s my first complete engine.....)

The top groove ring looks like it´s symmetrical, can´t find any difference - so it does not matter which way i put it in the first groove?

The second groove ring has got one chamfer at the inner side, on the other side is a small dimple. there must be a upper and lower side, but which one?

The bottom groove looks like it does not matter which direction i put them on - correct?

thanks for your support!

Greetings from Germany

Michael

Well generally speaking any dimple is an "up" mark. As for the others it shouldn't matter. I clock the gaps like this, top ring 10 o'clock, second ring 4 o'clock, then the two oil ring scrapers at 7 and 2 o'clock with the but ends of the expander at either 9 or 3 o'clock.
