Plug gap

-
Electronic for convenience. Nothing wrong with a "hotter spark" but does it really make much of a difference unless you are racing and need that last 2 horsepower to win? For a mild street car I do like the idea of multispark. It may help a bit but is it worth the money and hassle? (thinking MSD)

did you not see the article posted above!??

average 5hp!! that's a SOLID 0.048% increase!! and that hasta be worth at least another 558ft per gallon!
Saw it and laughed. Cool they dyno'd different plugs and gaps to see if it really makes a difference. It did, but not enough for me to worry about.

hey man, some dudes would kill for another .048 %

.... if you know what i'm sayin'
"some Dudes" .048% sounds pretty generous. That's 11.28 on my 273. If I was replacing the plugs and I knew that a .045 gap would increase my horsepower by 11 you bet I would gap them wider. Is it worth chasing for the gain? Not to me. It's like "who cares" for 90% of the people on this forum.

dick size, mike. i was referring to dick size.

anyway, putting aside all larking about the number was actually closer to 3%

but that begs the question: do the numbers extrapolate out? yeah you got 5hp at 180, but are you gonna get 10hp at 360? and does that 10hp actually matter when you've got 360 on tap? i mean, aside from a competition setting where cash monies is on the line.

then flip the coin on the $$ for them hi fallootin' plugs and wearing out ignition components on the regular and see what that pencils out to on back of the napkin...

Wow I can't believe someone would bring up spiritual beliefs over a plug gapping thread LOL put them in with a loose 40 and move on to something that really matters.

In my opinion backed with years and years of experience with it, the GM hei is the best spark for the money, most cost effective, most readily available at any parts store ignition system.
Function and availability are the two main reasons I run it.
Try finding a decent set of points or factory box in Needles on a 110 degree Sunday with your wife in the car. :D

The gap is a secondary subject

welcome to FABO where some people can turn anything into divisive political/religious discourse.

Even if it were true, "AT WHAT RPM?" LMAO! You'd have to spin it 12K to see it.

Any time I see an ignition test, and that includes ANY spark plug gap test, where they only reference peak HP I know it’s bullshit. WHY?

Because the load on the ignition system, and the plug, is highest when cylinder pressure is highest. And that happens at peak volumetric efficiency, which is (and always will be) at peak torque.

I don't have any fancy equipment for testing, but I do have good ears and eye site. A have been using an Axcell Super Coil for years and never had a glitch. I also use their copper wires and the plugs are always clean. The gaps may widen due to 30,000 miles of use at tune-up.

He does it intentionally when he knows he's run out of argument. So he uses that to appear to be superior. Appear.

My spiritual belief is that Allah would be happy with 0.060" plug gaps.....

Big gaps were for stuff like low compression HEI smog turds.

That’s why no one listens to Allah.
Alright Allah, I just dropped a new video on Youtube. I dedicated a Vince Gill song to a couple celebrating their 53rd anniversary. I was flat in a few spots, but I haven't sung in a while and the song is really out of my range. I think I did ok, though. They seemed to like it.

Actually idle is one of the hardest on the ignition system. The high residuals due to high vacuum make the kv demand a challenge. Modern engines with cam phasing (especially DOHC engines) help quite a bit. DOHC engines can really reduce overlap/residuals quite a bit.

Damn, what the hell happened..? I just asked what I thought was a "simple" question... lol

  Typical A body takeover.
Kind of reminds me back when I first bought my Demon.. I posted a pic on a Mopar Facebook page claiming I was going to do an LS swap, and any help would be appreciated...Well, it didn't take long at all before I was repeatedly told to "put gun in mouth and pull trigger" among hundreds of other angry, pitchfork and torch carrying lynch mob types wanting to offer advice on how to hurt myself, and nasty comments about what I can do with my mother...

Woah! Well, no different than here. Just do yourself a favor, don't cross that line....................anywhere.
