I'm looking at a 1974 Dodge Charger for sale currently and want some opinions on it. I don't have any pictures but can describe it and give you the fender tag. Supposedly has a rebuilt 400ci engine in it (didn't start up when he tried). The paint is bad rust in the interior quarter panels. Dash is bad, mismatch interior, suspension is bad, a lot of trim is gone. was a SE so it had the awful vinyl top which is now filled with cracking bondo and rust underneath. He wants 5k for it, which in my opinion is a lot for such a beat up car. He had someone else rebuild the engine so I'm assuming that's why he's asking that much, but it was rebuilt a few years ago.

Here are the numbers on the fender tag:

R11 V5X V7L 28 END
052 L31 M21 M25 M26 M31
V1L L1 B41 054 H51 J25
KG8 M4L3 000 B09 128883
E64 934 WP23 N46 146242

If anyone knows anything about these numbers or a place I can look them up then that'd be great.

WAY too much. I've seen turn-key factory 400 4bbl drivers with shiny paint and nice interiors for 7K.

definately way too much , 73 and 74 chargers are still running 2500-4000 around here in denver and co springs ,and these are good solid running big block chargers. 73 was the highest production run for the b body chargers and they are still around for decent prices.sounds like the guy is trying to make 3000 off of the charger emblems alone.if you are patient and hold on to your loot and keep searching, you will find a good deal and solid platform --my 2 cents

I don't think I'd even consider it. 5K is too much...I'd expect it to be in driver shape and mostly complete for that price.

Thanks for the decoding.

I'm with you guys, it was just a huge bummer when he said 5. I was expecting 3k to be on the high side. In San Diego there aren't very many around and most of the ones that are around are insanely expensive. A 70 Charger with no engine tranny glass goes for 15k here. I told him when he comes down in price to call me, but I wanted some second opinions.

What a piece. Leave it sittin.

yes its a terrible thing to see them just rot and get crushed because some greedy jerk is thinking it was cast out of gold and refuses to sell it for anything under 5000 no matter the condition.....good choice on passing , something better will come along trust me..

I'm doing a 73 right now it had lots of rust we did not give anywhere near that for it and it came with a rebuilt 440 and two trannies plus a ton of parts.I bought it cause i felt if it turned out to be unsaveable i could get my money back in parts. So far we are saving it the shell is just about done [metal work] hope to have in primer by january. You'll find something just keep shopping.

on the fender tag. that 934 is actually a d34, which is the 727 auto trans
