Can I put my Engine in with my transmission on in a 67 Dodge Dart? I have a 360 engine with a 727 transmission. I remember I tried before and I was unsuccessful. I know it would be so much easier to put them in together. Let me know your thoughts? Thanks

Yup, load the trunk with weight to counter balance the front end. Unbolt the k member, lift the front end with a hoist and slide it out. Clean up and paint everything you want. Mount the engine to the k member place the tail shaft on a cart, slider her all back in. Not quite as easy as I make it sound. But that's the way to go.

Some have also suggested removing the front seat. I have not had to do that.

It will all drop thru the top in one piece. Remove the hood.

Sure. Basically, the rest of the engine bay needs to be empty; no radiator, a/c & ps out of the way. Headers may or may not need to be out, depending on who's you're using. Pull the distributor, there's a good chance you'll hit the firewall with it in. No ex. manifolds until it's in. A leveler on the cherry picker helps, but is not mandatory. Drop it into the bay tailshaft down, as the tailshaft nears the floor level it out and slide it the rest of the way back. Set the mounts down onto the saddles, put a floor jack under the tailshaft and level out the engine/trans. Bolt in your crossmember and you're done. Start hooking stuff up.
Guys will say to put it in from the bottom, but I'm assuming you still have all the suspension/steering still in the car.

They drop in together just take the hood off, have a buddy sit on the windshield pushing the trans tail down also adjust and mount the chain according. Then bolt the trans cross member first then engine mounts second.

I have put the motor and transmission in through the top of my M code 440 Cuda without removing the hood although I did have to remove the two front hinge bolts.

Great. I’ll try to put the motor in with transmission next week. I’ll keep everyone posted. Thanks for all information. I appreciate it!

Yes it can easily be done. Having a second person will make it a lot easier, but you can do it alone. It can be done with the hood on, bit it will be a lot easier with he hood off. I usually lift the front a bit and place on jackstands so I can easily get underneath with a jack to raise the back of the tranny.

Pretty good description. I just did this with a 440/727. What also helps is jack up the back of the car as well. Jack stands under rear. Nose of car lower. Helps the angle It works. Take your time ,

We did once with a 4 speed. Never again. In and out from under the car, eazy peazy and no beating the snot out of your engine bay. Makes header install short work too.

Did it myself on my 67 with the hood on, just lower the front of the car by removing the wheels, helps with the angle from hoist. Helps to have a 2nd person if you can so you can stay in one spot.

I haven't seen anyone mention it yet but if you're going in from the top, it's a WHOLE lot easier with an engine levelor.

Here's one at Harbor Freight but you can get them. Many places.

I used a engine leveler with the engine and trans pointed down, with hood removed, and the back end of the car jacked up high as I could get it. Once the trans and engine was going in pretty good I lowered down the rear of the car.

Distributor out, and a deep sump oil pan can complicate an assembled engine/trans top install.
