Could somebody help me fix my startup issue. Car runs perfect. It's only after it heats up after only 10 minutes if I turn it off to get gas or chat up a friend, when I try to restart it, it cranks 30 times and then starts up. Could it be possible to have vapor lock with an electric fuel pump at 7 bar? I suppose if the line is close to something hot, it's burning up the fuel before it reaches the carb, until it cools down enough to pass the vapor lock in the line. Please help me understand this. Should I follow my pump from the fuel tank to the carb and look for hot spots? This is a consistent issue that can be reproduced each time I drive.

Thank you

Replace the coil. My 66 /6 had the same problem. I replaced the coil and it runs great all the time now.

I read that in another post...could it be that simple? I need an easy fix....that would be great. Post back later. Thank you!

I may have misread, let me get under there tonight and poke around! I just love how you guys always nail me on my info...I'm new at this stuff...I apologize for my ignorance!

I hope you're running a fuel psi regulator set at 6psi. !!!!

It could be getting flooded. Check down the throat of the carb after you shut it off. Is there alot of gas vapors coming out of the carb? Could be a needle/seat or float problem.

Thanks for all the help, today I checked the PSI on the gauge and it was about 7, should it be 6? How do I know. I was really hoping to take my car down to a real pro shop and get this thing tuned for real. Also, if I do have vapor lock: answer me this: After I shut off the car and try to crank it over, if somebody looks down the carb and I pump the throttle there shouldn't be any gas if it's locked up correct?

Also, what forumula is used to determine the psi and how to set the fuel regulator?

Thanks!

I believe im having some vapor lock issues too, but after shutting down, the motor heating up then trying to start again it will start fairly quickly but will not run at an idle(my 318 has 360 manifolds on it that come with in about 1.5-2" of my fuel line and i have a mech fuel pump. im assuming your situation is that once you start back up it will run fine? someone told me that my problem would be fixed with an electric fuel pump because it is always forcing cold fuel through. this is a shot in the dark but maybe if you engage the fuel pump for a few seconds before starting it will be able to clear the lock it self with just the fuel pump? good luck

If the pressure reduction to 6 psi is insufficient, consider putting a spacer between the carb and the intake manifold. There are a lot of postings from FABO members who swear by the 1-inch spacer to keep the fuel from percolating and causing the problem that you are experiencing.
