Just bought a 68 Dart with a 318 Magnum in it. Having a problem with the power steering pump. Whatever bracket was used to mount it appears to be incorrect. I'm unable to slide the bracket back and forth to remove or replace the belt as the fluid lines coming out the rear of the pump hit the engine mount. I'm assuming this pump is correct for the car, it just needs a different bracket to properly mount to a Magnum?

I believe you need this pressure hose.

I think the hose you have is for 73-up K-Frames that clear the spool mounts but hit the biscuit mounts of the 72-down when using the 73-up brackets. The 69-down have brackets that raises the pump because the water out let for the water pump is just below it on 69-down cars. Your set up also looks to have a passenger side 70-up water pump AKA aluminum water pump.

Or you can find 70-72 Saginaw brackets to move it up.

The Bouchillon hose is shorter where it connects to the pump to clear the K-frame.

I think I already have that hose. The hose that's on there now only sticks out about an inch from the back of the pump. I don't think you can really make it any shorter.

You mention that the 70-72 Saginaw brackets move the pump up vertically? Would you happen to know how much. If the pump were to move vertically about 1/2". It would clear the engine mount.

Your outer bracket is on wrong.

Hah, you're right. However I think it was done to better align the pulley. Correcting it will only move the pump out about an 1/8". I think the pump needs to be raised to fix this.

It's a fixed position but putting the brackets on right will give you the adjustablity your missing and you can figure out the rest from there. The pics also show the proper belt placement if that's an issue too

Switched the brackets around. Still the same issue. Lines coming out of the back of the pump still hit the engine mount.

Can't you just loosen the fitting and turn the line or is it hitting straight out of the pump?

Those appear to be LA mount brackets. To my knowledge, you cannot mix and match LA and Magnum engine brackets as both the timing covers are different and the heads as well. The Magnum engines came with the serpentine belt setup. Good luck with that.

its the wrong pump.. thats a saginaw pump.. needs a federal pump.. think someone makes an adapter hose for that pump though.

this is the pump you are supposed to have with that k-frame.. see whee the high pressure line goes on the front away from the k-frame...
