Precision vs timkin bearings

Getting ready to order axle bearings from dr. Diff. Are the timkins worth the extra $40? Thanks
 
Tapered bearings WHEN PROPERLY INSTALLED are inherently stronger, but on the other hand, bullions and bullions of Ferds and Ferd pickups have done fine with ball

Frankly, for the ease of install I'd probably go ball. And you are talkin to a guy who NEVER would have said that a few years ago.
 
are you going to autocross? Green bearings theoretically dont have the side load strength of a tapered roller due to their design, but are plenty strong none the less.
 
What country is Precision made in? Timkin started in Ohio at the turn of the century. The previous one, that is. I'll happily spend $40.- for a company that is headquartered here in the states.
 
Undo to popular belief Timkin is a brand of bearing not a type of bearing that said Precision is also a quality bearing .

NTN, Precision ,Timkin are all good. as far as which one is better take your pick .

It came with Timken, I'd spend the $ and go back with them. I've never seen a failed Timken, unless the seal failed and they rusted.
 
I replace a lot of bearing and race sets in equipment for my line of work and many have boxes that say- country of origin” is one place and the bearing cone and bearing race are stamped made in Mexico, China, Twiwan- etc, Etc. How this is happing I don’t know.
I buy from Bearing Distributors a commercial bearing supply company and even they can’t explain why box says one thing but product says another.

Yep, Taper roller bearings have been commonly referred to or called "timkin" bearings for a lot of years. Most common brand name, easier on the tongue?
Any round stick of chocolate will always be a Tootsie Roll.
Assuming both bearing mfgrs use the same machinery and quality control standards, the next difference would be in the quality/cost of their raw materials.
We could do a lot of research, learn which mfgrs products are purchased by NASA, trusted to Mars and back but... we don't have the taxpayers dollars to spend.
It's your budget, your 40 dollars. You might believe "You get what you pay for" but don't believe you'll be driving this mopar to Mars and back. Good luck with it.
 
Timkin is the gold standard. As long as the Bearings are from a quality manufacturer, not made in China, they will last forever. I always buy Timkin when I can. What's $40 bucks over 300,000 miles and 50 years of service.
 
I work for Timken....that’s the only way to go! Timken is very protective of their brand name and do not cut corners when it comes to bearings. You won’t be disappointed.
 
Timken is the best! Have used it exclusively no issues. Timken is the brand name. Other brands are usually not US made and not the same quality in metallurgy.
