I got the Duster in one piece and am now comfortable enough with it to take it to the track, so I'll be taking it to Cedar Falls Raceway tonight for some shakedown runs.

Anyone want to venture a guess as to what it'll run? Here's the specs:

'74 Duster, unknown weight
no HVAC, no wipers
full interior

360 .060 over, 10-ish:1 compression
OOTB Edel heads
Edel Perf RPM cam (234/244 dur @ .050)
1.6 rockers (.520/.544 int/exh)
cheapie 1 5/8 headers, 2.5" exhaust to cutouts
MP dist (18 init/34 total @ 2500)
Perf RPM Airgap
Holley 750HP DP

PTC 9.5" converter, should stall somewhere around 3600 or so
rebuilt TF727 with TCI valvebody

subframe connectors
Super Stock springs (002/003), CE 3-way adj shocks
pinion snubber about 1.5" from the floor
90/10 front shocks, /6 bars
235/60/14 DOT slicks
8 3/4 rear with 3.91 sure-grip

Here's a short video of it running after cam break-in...

CFR is a 1/4 mile track.

This first time out, I'll probably be babying it off of the line for a little while and I have my doubts on whether it'll hook up at all .

These tires hooked pretty good on the street on my low-13s, 318-powered Scamp, but this car doesn't seem to have any problems overpowering them in first gear. Hopefully, they'll work better on a prepped track.

High to mid 12's.

For a comparo only, The A body cars with the MP create short block (10-1 model w/ the purple 292/.509 cam) and your near exact set up have been known to run low 12's. Your cams duration numbers are light by 14* intake and 4* exhaust. The MoPar cm is stouter and has more going for it when the heads get ported. I love your lift though. You should do well IMO.

Just try to go for MPH and not time. The MPH is what will tow you how fast your time can be when you get it to hook because you tune for highest MPH. Traction = Time MPH=power/Tq

Here are the runs for the night:

1st run:
60' = 1.775
330' = 5.251
1/8 ET = 8.228
1/8 MPH = 82.44
1000' = 10.889
1/4 ET = 13.513
1/4 MPH = 83.72

It fell on it's face laying into the throttle from idle, shifted at 5600 from first to third, and I got out of it at about the 1000' mark. It seemed to hook pretty well, the front end stayed high all the way down the track, which I wasn't used to and it threw me off a bit. Nothing broke, everything looked good, so it was on to the next pass after checking things over.

2nd run:
60' = 1.772
330' = 5.238
1/8 ET = 8.202
1/8 MPH = 82.68
1000' = 10.776
1/4 ET = 12.963
1/4 MPH = 102.66

Left the line off idle again with no problems this time, shifted at 5600 and didn't skip 2nd this time. It seemed to hook pretty good again.

3rd run:
60' = 1.721
330' = 5.178
1/8 ET = 8.133
1/8 MPH = 82.81
1000' = 10.702
1/4 ET = 12.882
1/4 MPH = 103.04

Last run of the night, so I changed it up launching at 2000 and shifting at 6000. It hooked fairly hard and pulled pretty good all the way to the shift light, so I think there's more there yet.

It definitely needs more tire, maybe a bit more gear, and some different front shocks to allow the front to settle down faster. I didn't do any tuning at all, didn't even touch the timing. I'm looking forward to getting a bit more track time. I think it might have a 12.5 or better in it yet. :thumrigh:

Thats a way mild cam. with 10 to 1 you could run alot more than that.
12.8's on what you have, I think you have done very well.
for the hell of it try shifting at 6500 see what kind of times you get.
more gear,more tire,more cam and a decent intake such as a victor or a M1 you could be high 11's low 12's.

Not that mild on the cam IMO, A hate to say it, but something isn't right, that car should be in the low 12s at around 108 with that combo, seeing your in Iowa, i'm sure the Alt. isn't that high, I ran 12.5s at 105 all day long with WAY less then what you have, that was on a 1.79 BEST 60ft., best 1/8 ET was 8.0s, you need to start tuning or find out whats up, here was my lame combo.

71 dart, all steel including hood/bumbers, MBs & steering. Guesstament race weight was 32-3300 lbs.

95 junkyard 360 short block with quit a few miles.
RHS heads with stock ports, 1110 springs
Reground stock roller cam from Bullet cams. (470/470, 218/218 @50 on a 112)
Stock rockers/pushrods
Crosswind RPM airgap, 650dp
Summit headers
MSD dist with Mallory box.
Stock 904 with cheetah RPVB
PTC 11" 2800 stall
3.73 gears, 28" DRs

On the sauce (125) it ran 7.4s @ 95 1/8

This was allways shifting at 5100 because thats all she rote.

I'd weigh the car, just for comparison, I had a 75 duster with an all iron 451 lowdeck, all steel including hood, took of both complete bumpers weighing 165 lbs. Aluminum rad. MS & brakes, with race seats & it had the fold down rear seat, The car weighed just under 3K lbs, around 2930 without me over the scales at Ennis raceway, I was shocked to say the leasst, So i'm sure your 74 is not that heavy, I'd guess around 3200 & change.

Just listened to the video, that cam sounds good & quit heathy, not too small at all, excellent responce, I'll change my low 12 responce & say that car should be around 12.0s @ 110, If i had my engine sounding that good it would be in the 11s EASY, something is not cosher.

Left the line off idle again with no problems this time, shifted at 5600 and didn't skip 2nd this time. It seemed to hook pretty good again.

3rd run:
60' = 1.721
330' = 5.178
1/8 ET = 8.133
1/8 MPH = 82.81
1000' = 10.702
1/4 ET = 12.882
1/4 MPH = 103.04

I'd kill for a 1.7 60ft - thats helping your ET right there.

If you don't mind me saying your MPH seems a little low for that cam and head combo - I have guessed around 107 MPH - wonder if the OOTB Eddies need a clean up?

The track is at 850' and the DA on my last run Friday was 1874'.

I'm betting that the jets are rich, the carb is a 650 DP with the 750 HP main body on it with 74s in the front with PV and 80s in the rear. It loads up a little cruising at highway speeds. I need to get off of my butt and start tuning.

I might have a fuel delivery problem in there too...there's a 3/8" Fram inline filter before my electric pump and it probably doesn't flow enough to be on the suction side. I'll be replacing it with a big canister filter as soon as I can get the money around for it.

Theres a few variables that can get your times lower, for now, just enjoy and know that it is a good showig for the first time out. Without a doubt.

thats not bad at all for your first time out with the car. Was I right with my guess of 12.80s or what?? With a little tuning and some minor changes, I think your ET will drop to the low 12s
