not a dumb question. that is normal for most intakes. I know it looks weird. Don't know the reason for it either.

That's the exhaust crossover vent area. It basically stops exhaust heat from cooking the head. Your good and it's not a problem at all. :thumleft:

Most gaskets will cover that area so they will never show.

block exhaust crossover...not water...stops from heating up the intake too fast....
