Project- Bills Buggy

-
Bill, sorry I didnt get a chance to post on the thread ....but as you know by now through ours PM's I have some stuff going on that has been keeping me busy.

Anyhow, I got a chance to sit down and really check out your dart and first id like to say.....I think your to hard on yourself. from what i can tell by the pictures, the buggy came out looking exceptionally well!. you might just nit pick at it a little more being that you built it and its easier for you to pick out the flaws. but myself, aswell as everyone else I am sure see nothing but a clean looking dart!.

the hood and stripe made that thing look MUCH more aggressive. great choice in going that route. such an awesome color combo. you did great buddy. drive the crud out of that thing and don't forget to smile with each passing mile because you have earned it!.

now the most important question I have for you is.........when are you going to come finish mine? LOL

I very much appreciate the kind words, and as you know through our PMs, even though your busy, when I dont hear from ya for a while, I check in.. again, thats what friends are for.. lol..

Yeah I probably am too hard on myself (this coming from the guy who has sanded the Duster how many times now?? LMAO) .. Its definitely easier to pick the car apart when its your own, and you have done the work.. but this weekend, seeing it outside, cleaned up and shinning proudly in the sun, I was able to just totally enjoy her.. and became aware that what I thought were glaring issues, didnt seem that bad after all... I too am glad I went with the color combo that I did, and that I stuck with the black hood.. she has way more attitude than ever before.. Eventually I am gonna go with 15 inch rallye's in the back and maybe a 255/60/15.. and maybe keep the 14's up front.... if I can find the right size tire I want in a 14" rim anymore.. give my buggy a bit of the rake back we had to take out of it... though she still looks mean the way she sits.. all I know is I am so glad to be driving the Dart again... :burnout:

As for helping you finish yours, I so wish we lived closer, because I would be there helping for sure... without hesitation.. Your close dude.. very close.. I do hope our paths cross sometime, for a little cruising and a couple cold ones..

So this was kind of an interesting experience for me.. My step son started a twitter account, so in an effort to be parental, I created one, so that I could follow him, and just make sure he was behaving himself.. (we monitor all the internet activity the kids are involved in) .. at any rate, I began to follow people of interest to me.. I recently started following Chip Foose... as well as Chris Jacobs, and Courtney Hansen.. since I was always a big fan of the show Overhaulin' ... Now I know there have been threads here discussing the various car tv shows, and for the most part they get bashed.. But hey, thats cool.. thats what makes us all individuals... me, I loved that show, and though big wheels arent my thing, I have always thought Chip was a master at his craft.. His designs are innovative and wild, his artistic talents are off the charts.. and from people that I know that have met him, stories I have read about him, and his general attitude on his TV show, hes an all around really cool dude.. I have alot of respect for him...

So last night, for giggles, I tweeted all 3 of them a quick message about Overhaulin being inspirational to me (which it was) and a pic of the buggy... Chip and Chris both tweeted back!! I was floored.. thank god you can take a screenshot with the iPhone.. lol.. Just thought I would post the tweets for you all to see.. To me, it was cool that either of them took the time to even acknowledge me or my Dart... Chip... and Chris.. your stand up guys to me... oh and as for Courtney.. No tweet back yet LMAO ...

There is no doubt to me the man has incredible vision.. I would kill for him to do one of those hand drawn illustrations of my buggy for me.. LOL .. Thanks, I have to agree it was very cool.. Now if only Courtney would tweet back, I'd have the trifecta LOL

I wound up finally getting the 'Overhaulin' trifecta.. LOL

That is great to get noticed by Chip Foose and his gang. He had a great show and wish they would bring it back. Go let Stacey David at Gearz know about your car with a write up about it and what you went through to get your car to where it is now. Maybe one of the Mopars magazines will pick up on it.

I just might do that.. I have always been a fan of Stacey David as well.. Honestly I never expected any of them to tweet back.. but it was thrilling.. as for the show Overhaulin, it is coming back.. Velocity is the channel its gonna be on.. they havent set a date yet, they're still taking applications for cars.. Chip did tweet me about that when I asked him... Velocity has been showing commercials for the past month or so.. I'll let you know if I find out more info..

Dang I won't get to watch it oh well, maybe one day.

Well... Its been two weeks of fun.. But the buggy is down again LOL .. went to a couple shows this weekend and wound up with a couple issues.. (I knew there would be issues... figured they woulda happened right out of the gate, but the Dart was kind and held off an extra week) .. First thing to note is it has been crazy hot this weekend.. especially for this time of the year.. mid to upper 90's, and super humid.. but the buggy has been running very hot.. It has a 185 thermostat, and usually she has always hung around 190... well yesterday and today, cruising down the road, shes at 205-210, and if I stop at a light, the needle climbs rapidly.. She didnt outright overheat, but she was leaving her anti-freeze mark LOL .. The only thing we changed under the hood was an aluminum intake and that Holley 650 double pumper.. It used to be cast intake, and Q-junk .. I also noticed, climbing a hill in 2nd gear, the buggy was pinging.. we are thinking I need to fatten up the carb some... that maybe shes running too lean, which would cause it to run hot... so.. thats one issue that needs addressed...

The 2nd issue (and could've been a catastrophic one) is rear tires.. I was running 225-60-14's out back for several years.. but I had kind of worn those tires smooth.. nearing the end of the project and strapped for cash, my buddy had a set of 245-60-14's laying around in his garage.. they had great tread, but had been there a while.. they looked good, no dry-rot.. good way to finish things off and get the buggy out.. right? .. um.. well.. no.. on the way back from the car show we were at today, my buddy was following me in his Cordoba, when we got back to the garage he told me the car was parked until I can afford tires.. there is a bubble in the side wall of the drivers side rear tire.. on the inside of the tire.. the size of 2 fists!! its not a may-pop.. its a will-pop.. that was refreshing to see after I had just done a 65 mph cruise down the high-way..

So.. the buggy is parked.. I cant afford new skins right now, and unfortunatley the tire industry has drifted away from 14" wheels.. So when I do manage to find a set of 245-60-14's, Im gonna pay dearly for them... On the bright side, I had the time of my life the past 2 weekends with the buggy.. She hopefully wont be down for long..

Is it just 245 that are hard to find in 14"? I hope so! I see 215's advertised everywhere in 14", which is what I'll need. Maybe I should push my tire purchase to sooner than later?

Glad you made it home without a blowout.

O MY GOODNESS !!! Bill you have dun and A 1 job on your Buggy :blob:
This has been a great read and now seeing it in it's glory sure made my morning coffee time very enjoying
And to see all the great folks and friends jump in and see it.
Thank you for an outstanding build thread
Have a great Memorial Day :usa2:

Im pretty happy I made it home with no blowout myself... that coulda been bad... I will probably start my search for new skins sometime this week.. 215's are smaller than I want to run, so I will let you know how my search turns out..

A very Happy Memorial Day to you as well sir.. and I am happy to hear you spent your morning coffee time with the buggy thread.. That makes me feel pretty good.. It has been a fun ride with the Dart so far, and I am sure there is much more to come. As I have said there is still more to do, and I intend to update progress, as well as happenings with the buggy.. this thread will continue I imagine for as long as the buggy does LOL ... Thanks again Mike..

Well.. got my brand new 235-60's mounted and on the buggy.. She gets her air shocks this week so I can lift her skirt up just a weeee bit.. also getting the carb dialed in a little better.. Think im gonna have a little fun with the 'ol girl this weekend

Almost forgot.. the weekend before last, my grandson Jameson was just 10 days old, and made it to his first car show! He really seemed to like the sound of the cars.. Before my daughter and son in law left, they posed in front of 'paps' Dart.. (I love being 'pap' now.. I really do) .. I cant wait til he's old enough to go for a ride in the buggy.. Just wanted to share the moment..
