I"m preparing to paint my hood and twin scoops with a black-out treatment. Does anyone know which primer I should use for the fiberglass scoops? Is there one I can use for both the steel hood and the scoops? I heard somewhere that fiberglass needs a special kind of primer but not sure if this is true.

If the hood is not in bare metal you can apply primer/surfacer to both and then block them out. A 220 scratch on the fiberglass will give it some tooth to start with. Finish everything with 400-600 grit.

The "special" primer you may be thinking of is poly primer. It's like a sprayable body filler and is often used on Vettes and stuff. You don't need it. That's not to say your scoops don't need some work though - depending on how nice you want them to look. But the blackout will be forgiving.
