Hello,
built up the 742 diff in 2015, has 3:55 gears and a rebuilt cone sure grip

Has probably 40 1/4 runs on it. When I put it together used all new bearings, was a used ring gear set.

The only bad symptom is a bit of a gear groan on de-acceleration, I have read where that can be due to an improper initial pre load on the pinion bearing. I want to re check that.

this was the first diff I put together so I also want to take a look, as a bit of preventative maintenance

I have photos of what the gear mesh looked like so I can recheck that.

questions:
1) I did not loctite the ring gear bolts, I have read since I put it together that is recommended, so I will do that, what strength is recommended?

2) loctite anything else?

3) I know I need to pull the axles, it has green bearings, Dr Diff axels and rear disks, I remember the foam seals, do I need to have replacements on hand to change those?
'
4) The internal axle seals were new when I built the rear end, would they need to be changed?

5) along with the center section gasket, any other gasket or seal that should be changed upon disassembly? No leaks currently.

thanks

If it were me I would change the inner axle seals. Its cheap insurance.

Tube of RTV works for me for the pass 30 yrs or more.
