Hi, has anybody ever tried to modify the radiator support, or cut it out to install a motor in an early A body and then reconnected it with either welds or bolts?

I've seen folks cut out the center of the upper portion of the radiator support, then weld tabs to it to make it a bolt-in piece.

That's exactly what I did now its a bolt it piece, very nice when installing a motor and trans together.

Thanks, that is what we plan to do when swapping my built motor with my stock motor between my two 64 GTs. Should make it at least a little bit easier.

But why would you go through all that trouble when you can drop the motor and trans in together without even taking the hood off the car? I do it all the time with almost no trouble at all!

simple u say 65 year? get 68-70 k frame and that year mounts. all motors big and small r cast diff than some 67 to to date.

Aren't the 67 and up k frames wider? What's the k frame got to do with this anyway?

mopar was smart as today the 300 and challenger and charger are all on same frame. old a and b bodies had a K frame to there selves A- body early had a fd up idler arm. new one sense 67 don't at 150steering not only went by fast sucked as my widowmaker KAW &%) TRIPPLE. u can change k frames but use new parts. idler arm has a bolt that goes throught it and not bolted to k frame. am 64 worked 4 gm 25 yrs as front end alignment person. listen or die happy day

I'm pretty sure the '67 up K frame is about 2 inches wider than the '66 down A-body k frame. I have my '65 valiant and a '69 valiant in my garage now, each with the engine out. I can measure to verify if needed.

I say same in early 70's tried 2 put a 340 in a 65 cuda . a holy mess. may be I do know that was first year 4 big block in a body as I mean a factory back . I would b li n 2 if I said if u have both cars I have not had that chance measure centr 2 center on both. then u will know or we will know go 4 it. if same get a 67 K frame put. O a big O ck steering gear box bolt on match iiiiii think they may interchange o again if u have power steering keep mopars system uses less power than any other. hay ley me we both learn more about mopars . b good!

The 67 and up K frames are totally different than 66 and back.

You have one too many tonight?

AS man said 67 and or 67 back are diff. point as K frames I agree but distance I have found out from fender 2 fender r same . ALL remember mopar on all Vehicles used one frame on body line and still do. ON A bodies stayed same . go I hope as any salvage yard get them 2 cut large part 4 support u cut a pattern from ur dart that is out sides of radiator support. or do as most on earth. DOcut both parts the part that is wide u narrow the center supports of both out. an get some one or then get a body shop 2 install

Rather than cut the radiator support, doesn't it attach w/ bolts (never removed)? But, most people install an engine & tranny thru the top w/ hood off, though post 5 says you can get it in under the hood. If you do remove the hood, drill 2 small locating holes in each arm to relocate so you don't spend a day trying to realign it. I marked w/ a Sharpie, but not good enough. My 1985 M-B is designed so the hood can be rotated up to vertical for major work (didn't know until after an engine swap). Some people lift the car body and roll the whole engine-tranny and K-frame w/ suspension under then bolt up. That is smart if you also need to rebuild suspension and steering. Search for photos.

That's great if you have the room in a garage or a nice flat driveway. I have neither. So I am looking for a way to install the motors by myself on a not-so-flat driveway with a engine hoist. When I put the motor in it that is in there now, my wife and I did it together. It was a pain in the backside to jack up the rear end, and put it on ramps, and lower the front end by removing the tires. I just think that this way without the rad. support, I won't have to raise or lower either end.
