Quality Control Issue?

I don't find many (if any) manufacturing errors made when examining/restoring my classic Mopars. Today, I wonder if I finally found one, or if the "discrepancy" was intended as such. The subject is the perforation(s) in the unibody structure for the trunk divider latch catch in a '65 Formula S. The passenger side (photo #1) has an oval slot between the screw holes whereas the driver's side (photo #2) has no such perforation. Maybe someone else can take a peak at their own to see if they match mine?

My car is the same as yours.
It doesn't look like there is anything behind that oval hole that you would need to access either.
 
“Quality control issues” on a 55 year old car. I bet if you take that back to the Plymouth dealer they will warranty it for you. Lol!


A lot of those extra holes were for line up jigs when they built the body.
 
I thought maybe the hole was meant to accommodate the "male" slide of the "shaft" of the latch (but I guess not).
 
I'm completely going through a 70 Dart GT. When I got it several years ago the former owner told me not to roll down the passenger quarter window because it would tilt forward and it was a real chore to get it back up in place. When I took all the glass out before sending it to the paint shop, I discovered that the back hole to bolt the glass in place had only been drilled half way through at the factory and the window had been held in place with one bolt from the factory. Once the remaining bolt loosened up , the window would move around and get jambed up. Today I replaced the glass with one I had laying around and the car will have a properly functioning window for the first time since 1970...
 
Mopar quality suffered in the early 70's because of the ongoing war between labor(UAW), and management. It was also going on with Ford and GM. The UAW just sent crap down the line to make their point. GM A bodies usually had a 2 year refresh, but because of labor disputes, The 1972 Cutlass and other GM A bodies, were another extension of the 1970-1971. History has forgotten much of this, but some of us old guys remember this as it happened.
 
My buddy's mom had a New 70 Buick Skylark with a rattle going over bumps. No one could figure it out. 4 years later I'm under the car doing exhaust work and see something through one of the frame holes. A beer bottle ! I broke it up with a piece of threaded rod . No more rattle. We thought Disgruntled or Friday drinking but as said maybe (UAW) .
