Hi, I have a 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger, original with a 340, and a 727 automatic transmission. It is plum crazy purple (original from factory). It has the twin 340 hood scoops. It also has the bucket seats in front with the counsel running through, and the 150 mph speedometer. I have been told this is a rare car, but was trying to get the opinion from other people???

All 340 Swingers came equipted with the 727 trans,. 8-3/4 rear and the ralley instrument cluster that included the 150 mph speedo. I don't know the numbers on how many were "Plum Crazy" though. Nice car!!

I dont think there are any break downs on cars by color. Welcome to the group !

According to my information, Dodge built 118,952 two door dodge Darts in 1970. Of that total 13, 781 were 340 cars, including export cars. 955 340 Swingers came with the 3 speed manual, 4423 of the 340 Swingers came with the 4 speed manual and 5004 of the cars were 727 automatic cars. The 8 3/4 was std. Your car having bucket seats and console makes it a little unique, but about 50% of the 70 340 Swingers I've seen have this over the standard bench seat. That's not an official percentage by any means.

Welcome aboard 70dart-340!

For the simple fact that it is a 340 Dart and "Plum Crazy Purple", it is rare, more so if it is a #'s matching.

The production numbers breakdown by color is vague, although the numbers have been used by the "Guru" of the Mopar world.

In 1970, 14% of Dart 340's were painted in "FC7", I do not have the breakdown for auto or manual trans.

Total production of 1970 Dart 340 is 10,382 depending on the source.

Therefore 14% of 10,382 = 1,453

These numbers were published in a Mopar publication dated: September '90.
Also one of the members posted a partial list with these numbers.

LOL, according to GTS340, your Dart is one of 13,781, depending on wether it's an auto or manual car.

Plum Crazy Purple was an option at extra cost.

Therefore to correct myself by using GTS340's production figures, "5004, 340Darts with 727 auto".

5004 units @ 14% FC7 = 1 of 700 ish.

Factor in bucket seats and all other possible combinations of options and the numbers go down.

Depending on your definition of "RARE", 70dart-340's car is, in my opinion falling into that category.

All the best

Yes I think its a rare car and I would think twice about cutting the body or taking off original parts. However that being said, I have no problem cutting up or racing out a 6cyl or 273/2barrel car because I don't think they are rare.

Thats just my opinion
