I have stage VI heads on my 496 now that has all the updates and has been hand ported. No flow numbers. Has anybody opened their standard port heads to Max Wedge ports themselves? I have done a lot of porting and blending but never opened a port up that much. Would it be possible to open the port using a Max wedge intake gasket, blending the port into the chamber? Any idea who can flow these heads and how much is the average cost? Thanks Matt

Some Indy 440 heads I just did. About 4-5 hours worth of work for me.

If you want max wedge ports, why not just buy a repro max wedge head?

Having flowed and ported both the STG VI and the STG VI MaxWedge, I don't recommend taking the STG VI out to MaxWedge size. You will end up into the pushrod hole if you attempt to go that wide. You can bellmouth the port entrance to MaxWedge and curve it around the pushrod hole. The Stage VI is a strange animal, you can whack a lot of aluminum outta there and gain nothing for the time spent.

Most of the ported STG VI heads we see come in here max out at around 290-295 cfm @ .700" lift. If we get a head that hasn't been demolished by someone else we have gotten,

Lift...........STG VI OOTB.......Ported STG VI

.100.............66cfm...................75cfm
.200............124......................149
.300............175......................215
.400............206......................267
.500............226......................311
.550.......................................335
.600............236......................341
.650.......................................343
.700............240......................346

This is a port that is neither standard port or MaxWedge width or height, but in between.

Ok Thanks for the info! I actually did research on trying to increase the flow out of these heads and found out you have experience with the stage VI. I have your number on my desk and was going to call you Monday. Your shop is highly recommended and has a very good reputation! I want to get these flowed with a valve job to see if you can do anything to make them flow better. I also want to change to a Nitrous cam and add more lift, so I need to see how much lift these will take. Thanks for your time! Matt

I can tell you that IQ52 is the one to do it. Thou I haven't bolt my P5249579 Max wedge heads on my motor yet. I had IQ52 port my heads and all the other work that goes along with them. I sent him a pair of bare new castings and Jim did the rest. Great flow numbers and look nice.

Ok Thanks! Would you mind sharing those flow numbers? I'm trying to get these heads in the .700 cfm flow area! Thanks Matt

These are SGBARRACUDA's flows. He sent us the MaxWedge heads. The flows in post #7 above are from a test port in the standard STG VI head. I don't think there is much more to be gained unless you can get a set of Chapman MaxWedge STG VI castings. And those I've never had my hot little hands on.

Lift.........OOTB in/exh............Ported in/exh

.100.............61/58....................77/70
.200...........124/115.................160/135
.300...........188/149.................224/184
.400...........232/156.................273/220
.500...........256/162.................311/254
.600...........257/165.................335/271
.700...........261/168.................346/288

I have a set of original '518's (Stage III) if you need some pictures of the ports, let me know. Mine or virgin unmolested stock heads.
