R. Lee Ermey, a former Marine Corps drill instructor has passed away

-
The first few minutes of Gunny in the dorm is the best part of the whole movie Mike!! I could watch that over and over.

I went through Army and Air Force boot camp, but not Marine Corp.

Watching that always reminds me of all the crazy stuff Drill Instructors said and did.

RIP Gunny

Semper Fi Marine, every Marine knows you as Gunny now and forever.

He was the man !!
Made millions laugh for sure !!
Nobody could have done the role like him.

1988, I was sitting in a reception battery at Ft. Sill, OK. Myself and about 10 others were the first to show up for the next incoming cycle and because there were so few of us, they got us thru intake pretty quickly. So while we're waiting to be picked up by our Drill Sergeants, the cadre thought it would fun for us to watch Full Metal Jacket. I hadn't seen it, by the end of the movie, (with the Cadre's help) I was ready to **** bricks when our DS showed up.
Turned out it wasn't that bad and actually helped. Every time I thought crap was bad, I'd just think it could have been a lot worse.

Hearing of his passing yesterday reminded me of my own basic training and good times. RIP Gunny. He’s a military legend. Dustin
