Radiator core addition cost???

Got a qoute of $250-300 to add a 3rd core to my stock radiator. This seems a little high in my opinion. What is reasonable for an extra core add? I can get a brand new one from US Radiator rated to 450hp for $455. :salute:
 
That is a new core, 3-row with new bottom tank, and your old top tank with a new hedder plate, still cheaper, will handle 400 hp no problem.....
 
just a suggestion here but instead of getting a third row added get the cores tubes made larger , and add more rows. in my stock 72 340 radiator i had thought to do the same thing as you upping to 3 rows. the bottom tank could not support it. the guy said let me fix it up the way he suggested. i went from a stock 70 rows (tubes) to just under 100 (96). so i had more cooling tubes right off the bat. then the stock cooling tubes are real small maybe 1/2 inch? he put in tubes like in an rv that are about 1 inch. difference in temp was about 20-35 degrees. my car never climbs on extended idles or highway runs. cost is going to be expensive either way. my recoreing was 375.00, but well worth it. everything bolts back and fits with no mods or special hoses to buy.
 
I had a C Body radiator in my barracuda ever since I bought the car, I have never had cooling problems, I had it boiled out after putting in the new 360 and it still is cooling well. The only problem with installing it, is the mounting brackets are at a different angle. I like the way it look in the car too.

I picked up a new 22" A-body "Heavy Duty" (318 AC or 340) radiator for about $140 at Advance Auto. My 360 (~370 HP) will sit an idle all day long in 90+ degree heat and the gauge won't move at all past the point the t-stat opens and starts to regulate.

FWIW, I am using a stock thermostatic clutch fan without a shroud and a stock replacement water pump.
 
I did the same thing with the Demon, that is paid $100 for a C body rad, had it flushed and it's worked fine keeping the 383 cool.

I'd like to keep the Factory Shroud on the car if possible. Did the 22" radiator from Advance Auto bolt in without any trouble. Just wondering if it will fit the more narrow early A-body.
 
Dave I've been running the stock 273 rad, shroud, and fan on the original 273, a warmed over 318 for 10 years, and the heated up (no pun intended :) ) 360 for the past 18 years, and never once had an overheating problem.
 
Good thing you live in Alberta, Canada :salute: It gets up 110* here in the Valleys of LA. I live near the beach but I work in LA and would like to drive to LA in the summers with the top down. Don't think the 2 core stock 273 radiator with shroud will work optimally for my 400+ hp 340. Don't think I should take the chance with the new engine and be standed in a bad part of LA if you know what I mean.

dgc333: are you running an automatic or manual transmission and was the 22" radiator a 2, 3, or 4 core?

Yes it bolted up to the nut inserts in the core support with no issues. It also came with the mounts on the engine side to bolt on a shroud. I have a shroud to put on put haven't got around to it since I have no real motivation.

I believe I order the radiator for a 72 Dart, the top tank was squared off verse the older cars with a round top tank.
 
I have the 25 inch 2 core in my car, and it cost me $200 to get a third core added.

I have a 180* stat, High volume MP water pump, and 7 blade clutch (A/C fan) with no shroud (for now). It would handle 90* days fine, but our 110 * days were killing it.

Now I have the 3 core, and an oil cooler. Still no shroud. Won't need it in the cooler months while I decide if I'm going to use an electric setup on the car.
 
I have a 22” radiator out of a 71 A Body. Clutch fan, shroud and a fresh 408 built engine. 220+ today, and yes I’m worried. The radiator looked good, so we didn’t worry about it. Now, I’m not so sure. I have a Champion aluminum available, but that one didn’t cool so well when had it in the Valiant before the engine rebuild. So, I don’t know what to do now. I’ve never had cooling problems before.
 
Just talked with a guy that I work in security with. He also manages two Advanced Auto stores. He’s going to get me a price on one.
