radiator. what should i shop for?

BTW: I don't suppose your using a factory fan shroud are you? That was one of the other issues I had. The ad said the factory shroud would bolt right up but it wasn't even close.

Nope no shroud. Electric fan mounted on the front on brackets. I don't like using those zip tie mounting kits.

Ok so the holes dont line up. Gotta drill new ones. Its Wider so no stock fan, must use electric fans. Clears my lift off hood, but is taller. And doesnt really sit flush like the stock one but might be because the radiator or my mounting area is bent but idk. I will drill holes and put it in when i have time to wire the fans up.
 
I had major problems with over heating on my 499 stroker in th 67 GTS, after having my original recored. I called U.S. Radiator and told them my problem and he told me that brass was better than alum so I ordered one, he asked if I wanted desert cooler or optima I told him I wanted the best he made don't remember price big was real pricey. It wasn't any better than the original, money wasted. Ordered a new Griffin from Summit but it kept getting backordered back in 2004. Time was running out to get ready to go to Cruisin Coast so salesman told me I might try one of Summit's universal auminum crossflow that was on sale for $138, put it in and problem solved. Wish I had done that to start with. Been in since 2004

A lot of guys claim brass is better and I don't know the properties of heat dissipation of metals so I can't argue from that point but I do know I've tried both and aluminum always works the best for me. It gets plenty hot here in the summer so I get to test them good.
 
I'm not one for snake oils but i did notice a considerable difference when i ran a 50/50 mix with "Water Wetter" in my aluminum radiator. But then again, other factors could have been at play.
 
Give Mark at Fontana Radiators a call and he could hook you up. He's got a 402 in a 73 Duster.
 
and the fact is:

There is much debate over whether a copper or an aluminum radiator will cool better. There are pros and cons to each material. It has been scientifically proven that copper actually transfers heat better than aluminum. It is easier to repair in most cases than aluminum and until the last couple of years was much less expensive. The drawbacks to a copper radiator are the weight difference (aluminum is much lighter) and the solder joints that hold it together. The solder that secures the tubes to the fins does not transfer heat as quickly as copper and slows down the heat transfer.

Yet, I too love my aluminum radiator
