Rallye Dash Screws

Reassembling a 69 Barracuda rally dash bezel. The heads of the #8 fillister head screws called for are too small for the holes across the bottom. I understand the plate concept across the top but what am I missing for the bottom screws?

Top row are aided with clips and bottom row screw directly to dash. All are recessed so head is flush with dash. Top row are also grounds. Do you have the correct screws? they are special.

I have what are supposed to be correct screws. #8 fillister head. The one hole all the way to the right is correct size for screw. The other 3 holes across the bottom are too large for that head. I have another bezel I used for pieces and partsand it has the same size holes. First picture shows the difference between screw head and hole diameter. Second Pic is the back side if the holes in question. Is there something that goes in that recess?

Whatever screws in there should be recessed. That screw looks "normal"? Unless it falls right thru hole.

They fall through the hole.

Most likely the screws that are being used are not the original screws. I have found that even though the thread size is the correct, the heads are usually smaller than what was original. Kinda like a 2"x4" which is actually a smaller size 1 1/2"x 3 1/2"

Completely thru the hole? They should "grab" the inner hole. The outer hole I believe is just to access it and allow the screw to be sunken. Here's a fillibuster from our 67 cuda on bottom row.

Id say its one of two things, either the screws are wrong, or someone has drilled the holes to a larger size for some reason. Who knows why previous owners do what they do

If the holes are reamed out I'd be inclined to fill the hole with JB Pro Weld (or something similar) and after it sets up redrill the hole-twice, one for the threads to pass through and another as a countersink of sorts for the head.

Thanks for the input but it seems that the instrument cluster has to be attached to the bezel. The screws then go through everything to attach to the dash frame. They don't actually capture the plastic bezel but do capture the instrument panel which is attached to the bezel.

I'm pretty sure they grab the plastic bezel as well. But if u can put the screw thru 100% thru plastic bezel somethings messed up.
