Well I started hearing my timing chain slap around yesterday in my 96 1500 4X4 and it was kinda idling rough... I went and picked up a cloyes replacement at Napa and use one of the timing chain tensioners I had laying around and a gasket in a front seal and changed it. Didn't bother doing a detail of the engine because ill be back in there next month installing some ported SM heads and an Hughes rpm intake ,oh..and scummit headers. Notice the black link? It doesn't matter where it goes... but if you ever wanted to visually verify timing hasn't jumped..its supposed to be at 12 o clock with dots lined up iirr.
