Porsche 906 crash test - old fashioned way.
View attachment 1715978684View attachment 1715978685

Reminds me. My Dad was workin' on a project at LAX while I was still up here at Vandenberg AFB workin'. He was oiling on a 95t conventional crane. Conventionals have the option of using gravity to lower a load other than that hydrocrane having to power the load down only. He said they were swinging the boom over the parking lot when the brake on the whip line (single part line used for lighter loads) failed to hold the winch spool and down came the headache ball. It takes quite a bit of weight to peel a 3/4" cable off of a winch, headache ball probably close to 18" in diameter iron ball plus the hook and such. That sucker landed right in the middle of a early 80s model Corvette  :lol:He said it kinda bent the Vette into a V shape

lol, not that one, but a 1970 Ford Econoline window van. Mostly just referring to the era, getting gas in the morning chill.
understood

i spend my free winter months plowing snow...pumping gas (wel diesel) in the morning chill gets old soon

I was thinking the same thing.
Wonder when it was done, how long it lasted?
Seen the old F-4's go thru different paints, but not an A-10 like that.

What base is WR?
That's not one of ours, is it?

So, you got it figured out that we painted them up that color scheme stationed at a Brit base?
They do have the US insignia star on the front end of the fuselage.

So then, they were USAF aircraft from FAIRCHILD AFB, here in the USA, deployed over to the British base, for whatever reasons?

My old F-4 used to go to a base in Holland, sometimes Italy, on a fairly regular basis, and fly out of there for mission training.
