Lest we forget, today (June 29) is the 12th anniversary of Operation Red Wings (made famous by the book and movie ‘Lone Survivor’), where a four man SEAL reconnaissance team were compromised and only one SEAL survived the following firefight and E&E. The initial rescue efforts cost the lives of an additional 8 US Navy SEALs and 8 pilots and crew from the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.
It was then down to the 75th Ranger Regiment to go in and get them all out. Our Ranger brothers stepped up to rescue their SEAL and TF-160 cousins without hesitation. Some Ranger elements from 3/75 and the RRC were even flown from the US overnight to join the search and rescue operation.
After humping for two days with very little food and water (mainly hydrating on IV’s), elements of the 2nd Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment reached Marcus Lutrell’s location, gave him medical attention and secured his exfiltration. Rangers from 2/75 and 3/75 were also responsible for finding and securing the remains of all of the other fallen SEALs and TF-160 aircrew in bad guy country.
Make sure to share this with everyone you know and on every USMIL related board on Facebook. Lest we forget the incredible sacrifice made by SEALs, TF-160 and the 75th Ranger Regiment 12 years ago. RLTW!
