There's your problem right there. Arthur Godrey was pretty much all washed up by 1972 when Imperial tapped him for a "celebrity" endorsement. The people who would respond to this advertisement were getting on in years, retiring from the work force and probably buying their last car if they were still driving at all. Imperial was going after a market demographic that was becoming smaller and smaller. They were doing nothing to attract new, younger buyers and they were not cultivating brand loyalty.There would be no repeat customers and within a decade they ran out of buyers for what they were selling and the Imperial brand withered and died.
