That's a curious photo.

This kind of thing is what spawned "fly the biggest piece home" or "on a wing and a prayer." There are quite a few horrid looking aircraft, particularly B-17's that made it home after terrible damage. This was caused by a German propeller. No idea what happened to the fighter that did this
