anyone here like rats? i sure do,

its kinda funny, our towing compnays initials are R.A.T. rons auto towing, i think thats pretty cool, i was thinking bout ratting an 87 ford short wide i can get for $400, what do you guys think, its like a budget hot rod  who else likes rats???

i wasn't a fan of applying it to late model cars/trucks either, but i just got this idea in my head, and im thinking of just running with it.. that or i'll take off the body, box, fenders, etc, and keep the frame/running gear until i find an old ford pickup.

and thank you SOUPENE i think they rule too!!!!

depends on what they are, but I kind of like them. there is a couple of them running around Spokane, will try to get you some pictures.....

i love em'. everyone is different and original. im doing one now. 36 pickup with a 1st gen turbo cummins and 10-lug 22.5" dually wheels

rat rods are cool, but i have to agree with gtx, must be kept on that era of cars...newer cars dont have the look for it and tend to look tacky in that style imo

:toothy7:Mike, are you the source of all those rats they're finding in Alberta?:toothy7:

A buddy of mine has a 46 Power Wagon for sale I'd love to run as a rat..I've liked rat style motorcycles forever..had a 650 Triumph rat chopper in the 70's..

I've seen this old Pontiac running around town a bit, and at some local shows. It sports an early Hemi with blower. It has quite the HP, which is a neat sight on those skinny tires.

i like the look and i found it necessary to get free stuff or stuff i already had laying around to make my valiant somewhat respectable. so far i have less than 1000. invested including what i paid for the car. the rat look is holding me over until i can paint it and get carpet to cover my bare floors.

this is what its about ...

Do not go out trying to make a rat rod ... its the progress of a build.
I hate the term "rat rod" most of the real rodders are trying to get things together in a traditional fashion. aka keeping to a certain era and sticking to that guideline ie a 32 ford ... latest part you could use would be up to a certain year.

Too many people are trying to make a rat rod, which is stupid as hell because there are some stupid people going out buying all of Foose's stuff and then trying to make those parts look old. These tradititional guys are using parts that were made for those cars 50 + years ago.

I agree that you cant take a late model and turn it into a rat/jalopy....you can make a late model look ratty though...ugh.

Don't waste to much time or money on it is all I can offer and don't expect the traditional rod crowd to be nice to you about it....They sneer at me when ever I go to a cruise so I can only imagine what they would have to say about something like that......

That being said, see if you can find an older body to drop over the modern frame and drive train.....at least try to keep it more traditional and have some sort of plan.....a theme for it.

Good luck.
