Anyone ever done it? Re-drilling an 8 1/4 to SBP?

I have a pair of wheel adapters from 4" to 4 1/2". By Knocking the studs out of the 4 1/2" pattern it would slide on the studs and show the locations of the holes.

There will be an issue with the center registers being larger so that would be a seperate issue to figure out but that may be able to be machined in step downs. Step downs would allow for the drums to center the register and the smaller wheel.

Maybe Dr. Diff could custom make some axles if I ever need them.

there is only one way to put it so there is meat everywhere. Its been done. TRy and fill old holes with weld if you can.

Why? Have a set of SBP wheels you want to keep?

Yes, it would need to be converted to small bolt pattern. The car is unmolested so I am not touching it unless the rearend goes out.

I picked up this 8 1/4 a few years ago and have kept it around just in case. Another member needs it so I am looking to see if it is even feasable to convert it.

OK, I was just curious.

If memory serves, there were SBP 8 1/4s made in the late 60's and early 70's, so would an axle swap be easier?

They didn't. 8 1/4's were never found in SBP cars, only 73-76 cars with front disk brakes.

I wouldn't even bother. Larger center register, different brake offset compared to SBP brakes, etc. Seems as if you could go 8 3/4 SBP cheaper than that and it would be far easier!
