I put rear disks brakes on my 67 barracuda. I finaly got the chanc to put a few miles on it. When ever i come to a stop i have a load humming noise coming from the rear of the car. It onle=y does it when i push on the brake peddle. I got the brake kit from performance online. The set up design is from an 80s caddy w/ the E brake cable. Other than that they work great. Any ideas ?

Sounds like the rotors need turning.

mmm intresting they are new i would guess maybe 20 miles on them They had some surface rust on them. I didnt look but i cant imagine the rust still being there.
It's not the rust. It's the finish they were originally turned with. Any time you cut a rotor, you are cutting threads on it. If they are cut too quickly, those threads will put up a resonance and cause a hum.

Then maybe i should have them turned by someone who knows what they are doing.

Sounds like the same set up I used to sell. I was dealer for TSM. Sounds like rotor warped. Not sure what they use now but the last 2 kits I saved for personal use has FORD rotors machined for 8 3/4 Dana 60 fit.

Yea im not sure what the rotors are. I only know what the calipers & pads are from. I contacted them not to long after i bought them because the one piston wouldnt turn in. I wanted to know what the calipers were from. They told me they were a 1980s caddy

8 3/4 CHRYSLER & DANA 60
This is the sets i used to sell. But were gold car plated back then used some 5x4.5 bolt pattern rotors FORD the inside hubs were opened up to fit over axles hubs. So would fit Mopar axle hubs. You can't just grab the right year FORD ones at Local Auto Parts without machining them to fit. Sounds like a light cut would fix yours. No one here cuts rotors anymore. Just a few large truck places still do.

That kit looks completely different than mine. Yea im going to have to ask around & see who does it in my area if any.

Warped rotors will cause a pulsation. (50 years in the business) Rusty is correct, these rotors need to be turned (fine feed rate on the rotor lathe) and a non directional finish added.

I know I know....

The OP could take some 120 grit sand paper and lightly scuff the rotors and see if the sould goes away

I dont feel a pulsation. No mater how hard or soft i press the pedal If im going to take them off i just might as well get them turned

And that's good. I doubt they are warped. 340six said they were. Nope.

He "MIGHT" could try like a rolok wheel on a die grinder and give a swirl pattern on both sides of the rotors. That might get rid of it. But most of the times, I've had to just turn them. Just like you said. Nice and slow.

I would run them till they seat and if the pads wear out prematurely what do they cost ? About $10. Turn the Radio UP !!! :steering:

i didn't see what rear you're running, so i'm going to ***-u-me that you've got a 8.75

however, ifin' you have a dana or 8.25 it's possible that your axles need to be "shimmed" a little tighter with with thicker c-clips to help eliminate some of the play and prevent the rotors from excessive movement. to note, this is also possible on the 8.75 axles, but a lot less likely.

but more than likely, it's something dead simple like the rotor needed turned or the brake pad friction material chamfered, anti rattle clip re installed, squeak shim de-squeaked, things of that nature.

It could also be the pad material, some sort of incompatibility problem. Try different pads before machining rotors, cheaper & easier to do.....

8 3/4 rear w/ green axle bearings ill have to look up the year of caddy the pads are for i have it wrote down somewhere lol

Many years ago I learned to lightly bevel the leading edge of disc brake pads. Sometimes there's a vibration caused by that sharp edge. 2 cents
