Spend the coin on an S60 and be done with it.

your car is 100% mopar? :realcrazy:
Some are, some aren't. ( and I've got two narrowed nine inch with spools)
One is a French designed German built Buick with a Chevy motor and a Ford rear end, so I dont consider myself a purist....... but all six of my mopars have all Mopar drivetrains. (Including three flatheads).

The whole purist thing has its place just not with me. Simply because I can’t afford it. Do I love 100% restorations Yes I do. Could I ever afford a 100% No. That’s why I save clapped out slant six cars and Hot Rod those. Cheap and do whatever I can and want with them to get them looking cool and running again. I like Mopar small blocks with enough parts for 3 or 4 motors. Same with transmissions I think I have 5 or 6 904’s/727’s laying around, a 4 speed and a 46rh.

I’m hoarding parts when I can. Having said that I almost bought a 2004r transmission.

I can see it now pulling up to a car show. Hey man what you got in that thing? It’s a 360, with a GM2004r trans and ford 8.8 rear. Purists head just explodes. It’s a liberals dream my car has an identity crisis, sickness really. Just like the old Johnny cash song.

You can buy parts to make a 9 inch WAY stronger than a Dana. Fact.
And the cost would be similar if talking S60 and such a 9 inch.
Well, I ran high 9's with a 60 and the only things done to it were aftermarket axles and a rear cover that had bearing cap supports. Before that, a car that ran high 10's with a 4 speed that was launched at 6k using stock axles and no support cover. So why spend the extra bucks to beef up a dang 9??

Looking at your damaged axle pictures , I think your making this too complicated. Having experienced this exact axle failure/ side gear damage it appears the axle is not completely in the side gear. This is usually due to a low gear ratio /higher number. The fix is a ring gear spacer moving the carrier toward the smaller pinion gear. Learned this the hard way in a Super Stock 4 speed Dodge Charger.

Looking at the photos of your damaged axle , it appears as though they don't completely engage the side gear. Having learned this lesson the hard way with a 4 speedi Super Stock Dodge Charger I can tell you a ring gear spacer or thick flange carrier should move the carrier closer to the small diameter pinion associated with low ratio gear sets. (Higher Number). Probably solve your issue without spending thousands to revamp everything!
