Did any a body's come with 3.23 gearing? Doesn't have to be a posi. It's a slant 6 car so either a 7.25 or a 8.25 will work fine. If there was what years should I be looking for?

3.23 is a very popular rear gear ratio for the 8 3/4 rears. I believe the 7.25 had a 3.23 gear.

As mentioned the 323 was a very popular gear ratio and for good reason not too tall but still pretty long legged. My 340 swinger came with 323s and a four-speed and even with what seemed to be a pretty tall gear it was able to beat a lot of cars with lower gear ratios.

My 67 Barracuda 273 Commando came with a 3.23 7-1/4. I found an A-body 8-3/4 Sure Grip 3.23 for it. My 67 Barracuda convertible with slant six also seems to have a 3.23 7-1/4. So it was pretty common.

Ok thanks, the gearing in the car now is 2.91 . Will have to start shopping around.

There is a difference in 2.91 and 3.23 but not much. Not really enough to warrant a gear change.

I must have the strangest luck with the 7 1/4" axle since all of them in 25 years have been a 2.76 except one. I had a 2.93 or some 2.9X series a few years ago. ALL of the cars were automatics, `1964-76, evenly split between slanty and V8s. I've never seen a Sure Grip and certainly never a POSI !

1967 Dodge Dart came with 3.23, originally came with the 170 cu in /6 and 3 on the tree.

1974 Dart Swinger 225 /6 came with 2.76 gears and automatic.

Both 7 1/4" rear ends.
