Another silly question sorry guys

What's the general verdict on rear shocks for optimum length

I run mopar b body on my dart, and I think they do the job, as the rear body lifts showing the tyre, but........big but

Would it work better with say a truck shock? Or a 21" plus shock

My 60 foots are good, hooks well, lifts the front :)

But I want more ( as we all do )

Jack the car up and measure from your shock mounts down to the axle shock mount with the axle hanging down, that will be the overall size you will need when the shocks extended.

IMO, the shock has to be longer than the full drop length. Take a look at a hard leaving car with SS springs and the way the rear section looks when launching.

I go full drop + 2-3"

Check out the springs on this car at 57-60 seconds in. Car goes 1.46-47ish 60'

Stock 002/003 S/S springs in stock locations, work dead on with the Imperial shocks (did exactly this on my car, 2 others as well....)

thats a nice launch :)

so i should get 2 or 3 inches extra in length, i looked at ranchos but if i remember they were roughly same length, but they do have the adjustmnt , and as i dont run caltracks it kinda feels im wasting money on them

iv looked at the qa1shocks, and agree they look a nice bit of kit.

:)

leo, those are clearly rears
they bolt up behind the fuel tank and to the axle, very simple procedure

back in the day Calvert used Rancho adjustable. and we want a shock that is an inch or 2 longer than the measurement we get at full droop with shocks removed. back in the day mopar said use Imperial shocks. also at rest, we want the shock to be in the middle of its travel. after measuring my Duster - Trailmaster Dodge truck shocks

Direct connection long shocks used to come in two flavors. Auto and stick. Don't know about now though.

I used the Go Pro camera as a tool, best money i've spent on the car.No way to see what the shocks are doing from the outside..
