My car's almost out of paint & have to find some wheels-tires soon. Car is a 65 Valiant with stock wheel wells & will have level springs. Rear is an 8-3/4 with 10" B-body drums & backing plates (large bolt pattern). My plan was to use 225-60-15 tires with steel wheels & Valiant dog dishes. Had some 7" truck wheels with 5" backspace & these won't work (too close on inside). My plan was to use 6" wheels with the right backspace. To me it looked like 4" backspace would be about right but doesn't look like mopar ever made such a wheel. Common backspace is 4-1/4"- anyone ever try this? If this would work it would save a couple hunded bucks.

225's should fit. I have 245/60/15's on the back of my Valiant which also has stock wheel wells. They're mounted on Wheel Vintiques steelies that are 15" x 8' with a 4 7/8" backspace. They did rub at first, but my leaf springs were shot. I put new ones in that were arched 2" over stock - problem solved. I have a 7 1/4" rear with 9" drums. I don't think the width of the rear makes a difference, the spring perches are in the same place as the larger rear would be.

Not sure if that helps, perhaps it gives you an idea of what can be done.

Should be ok. I've got 235/60x15s on 15x7 Keystones (not sure of the backspacing) on my '63 wagon with 1" lowering blocks and there's plenty of clearence to the fender lip. I'm running an a body 8.25 rear.
