I had reputable race shop change out rear gears 410s to 323s in my GTS. Gears are humming during acceleration and more so when I lift. Is this normal during break in? The gears are yukon not my first choice however shop insisted.thanks Tia
Jeff.

Is there a chance that with the engine turning so much slower you are just noticing what was there all along?

Many of the new gear sets are cut at what is called 3-5 I think .
It means they are not cut with as many passes as the old style gears .
I think,,,lol ,,,I could be wrong .

If I read it correctly,,,It means they don’t have as many clean up cuts,,so they are a little louder until break in .
The set of 4.10 gears we got for my sons truck ,,,it actually stated they would run hot for the first miles until they seated in .
That wasn’t the case as it turned out,,,but I was nervous about it and was not originally too happy about the purchase .
They were a little noisy for about 150 miles on break in,,,,but after that they calmed right down .
Actually worked very well,,,,used regular gear oil,,,,and of course a bottle of additive for the Sure Grip .

But,,,,it all still boils down to who setup the gears,,,,,I’ve done a few,,,,,but even race shops have new guys that get put onto jobs that they aren’t qualified for .

Incorrect pinion gear depth. Find a shop that actually knows how to do it and do it quickly, or else the gears will wear into that pattern and they'll never get quiet.

Pretty normal during break in. Mine was noisy as heck on 1st test drive after swapping in the 4.30s. I added a 2nd bottle of modifier and drove around, lots of turning etc and it quieted right down.

Regardless of what people think it's not normal for new gears to make noise.

my 4.57s do the same thing.. way too loud, i'm pulling it to check/rebuild it with only 15 miles on it. (i didn't build it myself... never trust other peoples work) :) Wouldn't hurt to check yours out, tons of videos on how to do it..

RRR is Right again.
This is a unit that is spinning at high speed. If it is not happy it will not get better. There is an issue. Fix it or you will be replacing. Sorry to tell you this.

Gear sets for street use need to be lapped...together as a unit. If not done, they can be noisy.
