Thanks all for the input.RustyRatRod, there is always one in the crowd :)! And that"s a good thing. justinp61, do you have a variable speed or two speed band saw? Bob

My porta band is a Milwaukee deep cut variable speed, I bought it off e-bay for $100. It looked new, the drums didn't have a mark on them.

My band saws have step pulleys to set the speed.

Looks like a chop saw.

It's a chop saw that doesn't 'melt' it's way through the metal - not an abrasive blade

I did a lot of on-line research and ended up buying an Evolution Rage 2, but haven't used it yet (going to do some decorative fencing pretty soon, so will be using it a bunch)

Looks like Home Depot has them for $199 now: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Evolution-Power-Tools-14-in-Multipurpose-Chop-Saw-RAGE2/203633549

64DartGTinAZ, thanks for the heads up on the sale and reminding me about that brand. Let's see if I pry the wallet open and exercise the plastic before the sale ends! Bob

Get one and you'll be one of the cool kids, too! ;-)

(Good luck on whatever you decide)

ookie dookie artichokies! the saw is ordered from Homer D.Poe! I ended up using the sawzall for the project BUT if you have a need once, you'll need it again. I'll find something to cut when it gets here and let you know how it works. Bob
