I was reading through some threads and I thought this was appropriate so here goes. Everybody try to thank a vet today. It truely makes a difference in their lives to be appreciated. I went to the mall yesterday and as I walked in I saw an older gentleman sitting in his wheel chair waiting for his family to come pick him up. He was wearing a US Army hat with his unit patch on it. As I walked by I told my wife I should have thanked him, so I turned around and walked back. When I reached out my hand and said thank you his face lit up like a Christmas tree. He was so proud to say thank you. I told him that I too am a soldier currently serving in the Army at Ft. Bragg NC and I was home on leave. We talked a few minues and he told me he fought in WWII and in Korea, he told me "son you weren't even alive back then" and chuckled to himself. I told yes sir I wasn't even a thought. I thanked him again and he thanked me and we said our goodbyes. As I walked away I saw a couple of younger ladies walk past and say something about me talking and thanking him. I hope it was enough to make others do the same. Sorry about being long winded I just thought it was worth mentioning.

Amen Cory, Our retired servicemen and women often do not get recognition as far as their bravery and dedication to our great country. Remember that these people are the reason why we are free and have our liberty and safeguard all of us no matter what.

We do so each week during services. We recognized, acknowledge, and thank our service men and women each week. On the weekend of July 4th we gave all our church members who are, or were, in the service, plaques that show our appreciation of their service to the country. We also gave plaques to the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, to express out deep appreciation and their commitment.

It's just the right thing to do.

You bet I'll thank one dusted72! My family have a proud military service record. Tthere has been at least one family member in the services since the great war.

Thank you for my freedome!

I want to thank you dusted72 I wish I got out more so I could see some of our Vet's we have here in Jonesboro Arkansas, They had a blood drive here last week and they interviewed a couple on out TV staion, I could have drove in town and give blood but I was having trouble with a tooth extraction.
Yes I am so proud of you for talking to our WWII Vet, I have never met eather one of my grand father's but I know they dun there part giving us a safe place to liv and enjoy our children and life as we know it , Henry Slater USAF, and Earl Morgan Marine .
Thank you for sharing your experience and your service to keep us safe sir.

I never served but I come from a military family. I'm not wealthy but EVERY time I'm in line at Micky-d's, BK, Wendys or where ever and a service member gets in line behind me I tell them to step up, "Lunch is on me". I'm usually invited to eat with them and get the privilege of hearing some great stories. I live close to Buckley AFB here in Denver so it happens more then you might think. My record is 9 service members that came in together one day.

Just my way of thanking them for my freedom which I never fought for.

It wasn't long winded, we should be very thankful for our vets, past and present. I feel that today we don't do this enough

So to all our vets, past and present...THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, your sacrifice is greatly appreciated.

If you served in the military or are currently in the service you have my deepest respect and admiration.
THANK YOU!

Well said Dusted, well said. I met a veteran on the last Veteran's Day weekend and thanked him. Onecatnodog introduced me to him at a local car show. I really don't see many in the course of my day but I will certainly make more of an effort in the future.

Thanks for the reminder and THANK YOU dusted72!!!!

Joe

Great post and a great point made, dusted. The return you get for the small effort made makes it a no brainer. What you can do to brighten someone's day with such a small gesture. They certainly desrve our gratitude.:salut:

I'm a retired vet and I don't hesitate to thank a military member for their service. How hard is it to just say "thanks for your service"?
