Hey all, thinking about throwing together a super cheap 318 turbo engine for my truck. I picked up a 318. Did a budget overhaul, been given performer cam, small 204 at .050 and .448 with 1.6 lift. Or I have a crane cam 216 at .050 with .484 lift. I have magnum heads fresh valve job, pocket ported. Air gap intake ( I know its not ideal). also a 600 dbl pump with blow through mods. long tube 1 5/8 headers. Anyways this is going into a 84 dodge d150 (sorry no a body). I want to mount this under the truck behind the trans x member. The turbo I have is probably way too small, but its a t3/t4 hybrid I bought it for my ford 2.3, but is too laggy. has a stage 3 turbine, and I have both a .63 ar and a .82 ar housings. has billet compressor wheel, 58 mm inducer and 83mm exd. Turbo was built for built 3.8 turbo T/A, made 440 rwhp. Think it might make 300 to 350 rwhp?

1st off, you need to remember to mount the turbo high enuff for the oil to drain back to the oil pan
Second, every one is going to say that turbo is to small and to use an eBay gt45 turbo. They go for around 260+. And are good for 600+ builds
Third as every one els will say, there isnt really a "cheap build" . From my research, your looking at around 1,200-1,700 to get it all done... depending on how much free stuff and how much you shops for stuff etc...

Rear mounts use a special (as in expensive) oil pump to return oil to the engine. From what I've read, "these can be troublesome."

I'm not sure I see a real advantage. Not only do you still need exhaust from front to rear, now you need the pressurized intake air coming back up front, and "someplace" under the dirty end of the car to mount an air filter, as well as oil supply/ return.

I've been thinking of a single turbo. Google up "topfueldart" AKA Ward..........

There's a guy now on the turbo forums doing a similar single..........

I know the 98-01 (I think?) Gm trucks use remote mount turbos but never owned one so I'm not 100% on that.

There isn't any real advantage that I know of. The main reason some of the newer cars and trucks use them is due to space under the hood.
