At a pick a part and spotted a 78 Cordoba. Still has itit's spindles on it but no caliper (didn't really want them anyways). How do I remove them? I see there are some castle nuts where the steering linkage and LCA connect. How do I remove it from the UCA? I also want to remove the rotors. Half off days are in 2 weeks but the Doba has already been sitting here for 2 weeks and I believe I'm busy that weekend. Thank you!

First thing you need to do is take the rotor off....I think you have this one covered (remove dust cap, codder pin, nut, then pull).

I would back off the torsion bars or support the lower control arms firmly with something. When you disconnect these it may have a tendency to unwind the lower control arm which could be dangerous.

Take off the codder pin and castle nut for the upper ball joint and then beat the hell out of the knuckle where the taper is with a hammer. It will separate.

With the rotor off, you'll find two bolts near the bottom. Remove these

When you take those through bolts off, it will be loose at the bottom and you can remove. Make sure you take those bolts and all the spindle nut hardware with you. You don't want the lower ball joints as you'll have to buy them for a 73-76 A-body anyway.

Not knowing what to expect, I only brought a set of ratchets and wrenches, some small pliers, and a screw driver. -_- The cotter pins are kicking my butt...

a pickle fork might help on ball joints ...your going to kill the rubber boots with a pickle fork but it should only take three good hits and it comes loose ......for you maybe one good smack but i dont have much strength and a pickle fork works everytime

needle nose pliers are you need for cotter pins or even a pair of wire cutters ....just grip them with wire cutter dont press all the way down and you can yank them right out

Ibthink I may come back on Friday as I don't have the tools with me here. They're at home. -_-

I just unscrew the nut with the cotter pins still in place. The left over cotter pins parts are easy to remove affer the parts are off.

I just got home. I've removed cotter pins before when taking them off my Dart, but the way I did it was I took a thin punch, slide it through the little bend in the cotter pin and pull. I was able to get two off them off today with my cheapo pliers, but the third one got me stuck. I couldn't even get the dust cap off since I didn't have a flathead to pry them off. :?

..just smack a socket over the castle nut and cotter pin and have at it!

The loaded torsion bars can be a helper when separating the ball joints so long as there is a nut left on the joint for safety.

Going back again today. Going to try and get the brake pedal assembly out of the 75 Valiant first as I need that more. Then if I have time I'll try and pull the spindles. I brought hammers, needle nose pliers, and a couple other tools that should make the job easier.

grab the dust sheilds too. leave them bolted to the spindle or they will try to charge you for them seperate. if you can get the bearing dust caps off with out killing them take those too. they are hard to find and expensive.

Beating the hell out of the UCA where the taper is and nothing. All castle nuts and cotter oins are out. Already took the brake pedal out of the Valiant.

turn the spindle around backwards and smack the upper ball joint stud upwards from bottom. should push the stud out of the spindle.

I've been bashing it for awhile now and nothing. The stud isn't budging at all.

Everything is off expect the T-bar. All I need to do is remove the spindle from the UCA and LCA.

I got tired and decided to leave them there. They weren't a necessity. I was talking to someone afterwards and I didn't have the right hammer, apparently.
