Anyone know how to do this?
I hung a rod backwards. Damn I'm pissed.:angry7:

Help!:toothy10:

OK, I got it. lol

Prerequisite for installing spiral locks...get yourself some jeweler's screwdrivers. I happen to keep a set lying around. Good thing!
You basically have to get in under the tip of the lock and lift it out of the groove with another one. It's a pain in the ***, but if you're careful you'll get it.

Of course you can avoid this altogether by not working when tired and hanging the effing rod backwards to begin with. :angry7:

Phew! I was beginning to lose patience. Time to go to bed.
I feel much better than I did an hour ago.:-D

Good to hear you go it out. They are tough to get in, I can only imagine having to get them out!

I did the rods for my 408 and my r3.
After that, they're not so bad.

But it did honestly take me like 2 hours to figure out how to get the one out that I screwed up. I was sitting here cursing up a storm, meanwhile that mini-screwdriver set was sitting here the whole time right in my face. lol

At least I know they will never come undone!

That would be why there's black marker on all my parts...lol. I hate taking them off too. I use a seal pick but anything small will do

Little SnapOn screwdriver with the blade flattened...

I almost died when I realized I put the rod on backwards. Man!!! It was like 11:00 and I was exhausted from doing a million things all day. That pounded the last nail right in!

And I agree in hindsight that black marker is the only way to go!
I'll never do that again!:-D

Keith Black has a instruction page on their website for installing and removing spiral locks.

If you change a lot of spiral locks here some tools that really help...

JMS Motorsports has a removal tool for spiral locks... contact via telephone @ 218-843-5477
Lock in Tool has the installers for spiral locks... contact via telephone @ 704-843-5477

I have a set of dental picks that I use and yes they are a pain in the butt. Back when I used to do high perf motorcycle engines, the piston manufacturers used to supply a pair of nylon buttons for every piston. One nylon button would be put in each side to prevent the piston pin from backing out. It was a super easy solution and I've never seen one fail, even on 14,000 rpm air cooled big bore street/strip bikes.

I wonder why this couldn't be used on an auto engine? They never melted and it only took a second or two to install.
