Reputable 340 Rebuild Kit

-
There's a guy on the forum here that rebuilds brake and suspension parts. I bought a few sets of reconditioned kelsey hayes 4 piston disc brake set-ups complete from him, just attach to upper and lower ball joints. If he still has any, it's reasonable to get them. With the Kelsey Hayes, you can keep it with the stock 4" bolt pattern. The KH discs were stock from 67-72 (I'm not sure about the early A's)

In 73 they switched to the 4.5" bolt pattern single caliper disc brakes. They are common with the B & E body front disc brakes. If you want to convert to 4 1/2" bolt pattern, then go with the single piston calipers. They will require going with the 73 and later upper control arm which will bolt in place of the early one.

Hey there krazykuda!
Thanks for the reply,
Ill do a little more research on KH on an early A. Seems like a real good alternative. If it turns out well then i'll search for this special man.

If only everything was plug and play :(

^^ this man nailed it in his description and complete documentation of the process.

He also mentions that it will work with early A's but NOT with 13s up front... sitting right now i can't remember what i have but I'm 90% sure its 14s...ill have to check but on the next page, 2 or 3 members explain why it won't work.

KH's are the road im going with. Id like to try and stay period correct. Now i gotta find this mystery rebuilder you speak of. If i cant find the parts ill have to go with the more modern single piston and convert the pattern.. this also makes me think if the aftermarket kits come with the left hand thread on the left side??... more time and more research

I bought his "last sets" of conversion caliper kits a few years ago, then he found some more and made them available. PM him and ask. The worst that can happen is he says no...

I found some on ebay... Damn blurry photos. I asked for some more to my email.

They came off a 70 duster so im pretty sure they are KH's. They look like they need help.
And it seems as if control arms are also missing.

What should a setup run me for?

Thanks krazykuda.

My father measured the bolt pattern that are currently on. Hes getting 2 3/8"?? I know there is a 2 5/8" = 5 x 4-1/2 and 2 3/4" = 5 x 4-3/4..

If i go with the 4" KH's.. i dont think my wheels and rims will work ): gonna have to switch up front and then later switch the backs IF and WHEN i convert to an 8-3/4 rear end

KH were stock from 67 - 72 on disc brake cars. Price depends on condition.

You can't measure from one stud to the other, you need to match the bolt circle...

8 3/4" rear ends for a-bodies were all 4" bolt pattern stock, unless they have been retrofitted with 4 1/2" bolt pattern axles...

You may want to match 4" bolt patterns with front and rear...

I dont have an 8 3/4 end.. ive got the 7 1/4 on right now. Im on the search for that 8 3/4 don't get me wrong now. Not looking to blow anything up.

The KH's on ebay defientely need rebuilt. They are the 5x4" pattern however. Theyre at $200 but have $106 of shipping to add.

IF i can get them for $200 shipped, hemi71vx is willing to rebuild them for me. Of course at an expense. All in all.. i should be into these breaks easily $500- $600 range.

Shipping is going to be the main killer here

I ended up a little under $900 for my "kits" from hemi71x for shipping and all...

If you don't have the 8 3/4" axle now, but plan to get one, then I would plan to go with 4" bolt pattern... (Plan ahead...)

I just got home. Took me 15 seconds, thats including the time to get the tape measure, to figure out that i currently have 5x4" lugs

That would be a good reason to stay with 4" bolt pattern. the KH brakes will have it and an 8 3/4" will also...

These KH are giving me a rough time... and i havent even purchased them !...

Which would be the safer of two options if i put the six pack in:
KH to stay period correct

Or

A decent to better modern entire front disc brake setup that i can buy and have a plug and play setup

I'm a fan of stock as it bolts in better than the afterket....
