Anyone have any input on some + .050 3/8 locks and retainers for four groove valves with typical 1.437 or 1.45 spring diameter? Comp says they have some available but I have yet to find the part number for them. Been through the search here but haven’t had any luck there either. Thanks Everyone!
I’ll go ahead and put a shout out to some of you who may know off the top of your head…

Four groove no but I never did a search for them.

And since I’ve got some experts here on the subject, I’ve found some who have posted years back about people who claim to have used two or three groove locks on four groove stems to gain installed height. I know it wouldn’t work with the two groove locks I have unless the bottom of the lock where filed until the lower lock bead was removed. It appears that the lock groove distances are somewhat standardized. But I just can’t imagine that having an open groove in the valve below spring pressure without even the small amount of contact that the lock bead places on the top of the groove (and more importantly the Collet effect below the groove on the large diameter of the valve stem!) could be a good thing.

Garrett. Did Comp. provide you with this part #? If it's # 626-16 @ 10 *, that's a reduction in installed height of 25-30 thou. compared to a stock 7* piece. Is this what you're looking for? OR are you trying to get more height?

See that retainer in pic 3 and 4, far left, vintage Direct Connection piece. 10* stuff, part # long gone lost. Gain of 25 thou. over stock installed height.

Yes. Even though it’s going to be mildly upgraded from stock with a hydraulic roller and lift in the .474 range (Oregon regrind of stock HR cam) with roller rockers and takeoff dual speed master springs without dampers (I forgot the exact specs, but they’re around 115 seat @1.80), I’d still like to go with 10 degree retainers and locks if at all possible.

I had a turd once that looked like a valve retainer. I couldn't tell if it was a 7 or 10 degree, though.

Can the Hughes Engines HUG 1252 retainer be used with the stock locks?

1270 or 1272 would be what I'm looking for, but thanks for the lead! That lets me know what to look for when I get back to the retainer dimension charts, I'll find the lowest price chromoly available (which I am sure is what Hughes number is originally purchased as, they're good at that on their valve springs that come in a PSI box!) and share the make and P/N back in a couple of days, if not sooner.

I have used 050 locks, plus & minus, on various engines but not Mopars & they never gave the 0.050", more like 0.035".

Whaaaat?????

Off hand IDK. I went to hugesengines for their trick retainer and spring package for use on Magnum engines for more lift on the stock head. I don’t know what your spring dimensions are or what the Hughes retainers are, off hand.

I believe you'll find the four groove valves will be a hindrance as far as the offset locks are concerned. I've been looking all night and have yet to find any.

For steel retainers I almost always use Comp.
Crane had a nice assortment of varying IH pieces, but they’re gone now.
I can tell you that compared to a Comp 10* steel retainer, the Comp or Manley tool steel 10* retainers will add .030-.050 installed height.

As for how what else out there measures against the Comp....... I can’t really say.
