I own a 71 Demon that has very few things original about it. It's a red car and when I bought it it had a green trunk lid with the ridge down the center.

My buddy's 71 Demon has a trunk lid with no ridge (flat), so when I found a trunk lid with no ridge in the junkyard I bought it.

Now I know this is a minor thing, and I have researched and found 71 Demons with either type. Usually earlier Demons/Duster have no ridge and later ones come with the ridge.

As I've been staring at the deck lids, I'm starting to think that I like the ridge.

Since nothing is original what would be your choice?

Dude, Id do whatever you want with it, its your car. But in my opinion, the ridge is cool. Id go with the ridge v ridgless

From what I hered they started putting the ridge on them to strangthen them up some. I always liked the one with the ridge better.

Was put in the lid to strengthen them as Burnt mentioned. Started approx mid year 1971, IIRC.

The lids with out the ridge almost always have dents on the rounded rear portion from people slamming them closed. Especially if the latch came out of adjustment.

It was a line wide change for both Dusters and Demons. Early cars in both models had no ridge lids.

I'm sure that the ridge started in late 71.A 1970 duster would have no ridge,so a 71 first year Demon would most likely have the ridge.

1970 and part of 1971. Ya, that makes the flat lids more rare.

I got the one from the junkyard that is remarkably straight.

But the ridged one has more strength? I like that.

If your going to use the Direct Connection spoiler, you'll have to use the lid with the ridge in it.

If the car is an early car then no ridge if it is a late car then ridge it. Or put on the one that you like the best.
