Got my shortblock 360 .060 together, but now I'm wondering about the ring gap. I don't think my pistons are hypers, just cast (silv-o-lite 1273 60) so I set the gaps at about .0165. Should I have followed the 20-40% gap increase rule? It's not really a HP build. Thanks in advance!

Best advice is to follow the manufactures reccomendation. There are alot of variables. NOS, stock, ring width, number of rings, etc.

The sheet that came with the pistons says MAY need to increase gap by 20-40% for high performance or towing apps, rings say .004 per inch...

For the standard cast replacement pistons (what you have there) you can use the ".004 per inch of bore" guideline with no worries. I round up so for 4.03 bore (comes out to .0161) I'd be setting the top ring at .017, second ring at .020. That being said I think you're just fine the way it is.

Error on the big side. If the rings butt ends your in big trouble. If the gap is a little big, no big deal.
