RIP Roy Rivera (SGBARRACUDA)

-
I just found out that one of our FABO members Roy Rivera (SGBARRACUDA) passed away last weekend. His wife Paula told me he passed of natural causes on Saturday while on a hunting trip with a bunch of buddies. He was one of the good ones, Rest In Peace Roy, you will be missed my friend.

I told him not to go hunting with Dick Cheney.... :elmer:

I just found out Roy has passed. I just bought a '70 Duster from him several weeks ago, and he gave me a great deal and even delivered it. We had a great chat when we met in person. My condolences to his wife and family.

For those members who were not fortunate enough to deal with Roy, I thought I'd share my Roy Story. Over the years, we did buy and sell a few items between us. One time, I saw he was selling some 69 Dart parts and asked if he had a right rear tail lens. He said yes and we made a deal. When it arrived, I played hob getting it to fit. Finally I noticed that I had the wrong side. Left and right are a hair different and I got the wrong lens. I contacted Roy, who shipped out the correct one the same day. When it arrived there was a ten spot taped to the lens, to pay for the return shipping on the incorrect left lens. I figured this was an honest error, so when I sent back the lens I also sent back the ten bucks.

Fast forward a while, and I see a post of his about some 727 parts. I needed the oddball bolt/stud that goes to the case, holding the shift mechanism and asked if he had one. He was going to check. A few days later the bolt arrives. I shoot him a PM asking what I owe him for it. He says nothing, as he figured he owed me a favor. I forgot all about the tail light lens business - he had to remind me what I'd done so he figured the bolt and shipping were gratis to even up.

I know there are many more Roy Stories out there. This kind of excellence of character is the stuff good people are made of. It's a sad day we have to say goodbye to Roy, but his spirit will live on.

Thanks for your Roy story. Like you said, I'm sure there are many.

I bought a number of items from Roy and he bought my 273 Commando and other items from me.

I have a Roy story similar to yours. I put a wanted ad on FABO for a trim ring. Roy messaged saying he had some and would send pictures of the nicest one. He gave me a price with shipping and I sent him the funds via PayPal.

The next day he called to say it was less to ship than he thought...$8.00 less as I recall. I told him to just keep it, but no, he sent the entire amount back to me via PayPal and told me to send him the lower amount.

I have more Roy stories similar as I'm sure others do. Yep, his spirit will live on.

A true Mopar Legend…
The 1st person I ever bought parts from many many years ago when I bought my 69 Dart vert- and stayed friends ever since. My definite “go-to” guy whenever I had a problem or question and a true mentor in every sense of the word.
Spoke to him quite a bit and always enjoyed seeing him at Garlits. He would always ask about my family and we would talk some baseball (his Rays- my Tribe) between the car talk.
Spoke to Paula and told her how much he meant to me… Roy ALWAYS put others first.
God bless You my old friend… thoughts and prayers to you and your family. You will be missed.

Been holding back to post in this thread :( his passing shook me a bunch, and my life has been full of friends and family passing in the last few years , members here and three brothers i had to lay to rest :(

RIP my friend, thank you for all the knowledge and friendship threw out the many years, he was involved with many other members here when I took ownership of Victoria, many times he would message me asking if I needed a part he found before he posted it for sale, a kind and knowledgeable member that will not be forgotten anytime soon..

Sometimes I just have to give myself time , and heal a bit..

I’ve had a few dealings with Roy. We even talked on the phone. We both bought and sold to/from each other. We did have a trade deal in the works but it never happened. Of course u never think anything bad will happen to any you know. Rest In Peace Roy. Kim

Another Roy story; I started going to the south Georgia swap meet & drag race a few years back at SGMP, I sent a PM to Roy to see if he would be there, he replied that he was having back problems & would not be able to attend. Fast forward to the next meet, Roy sends me a PM & asks if I will be there. I showed up on Friday, got some swap meet spaces. I get there early Saturday morning, get all the stuff out & lo & behold, Roy & his friend Mopar Mark show up. We chatted throughout the day, he bought a few items that I had & said it was time for him to head to Florida, we communicated back & forth over the past few years via PM & on the forum. I considered him a good friend & an asset to this site. I know I will miss him, his postings & his sense of humor.

Rest easy Roy knowing we will miss you.

My wife and I met him in NOV when we popped over to pick up some parts.
He was a really nice guy, just like you hope to meet, but rarely do.
We had made plans to pop over again in FEB, maybe three weeks ago...we really don't have the last word on everything in our world, do we?
Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
Roy, you touched a lot of people. We miss you.
