That quarter mile time is absolutely ridiculous - 17.7 at 79? The standard two-barrel 273 would run that. Try low 16's-high 15's, which is what pretty much every other magazine got from a Commando 273 Barracuda.

BTW, there are other road tests of other cars that are just as bad. Just one example, the 58 Chrysler 300 with a 375 horse 392 hemi and torqueflite trans that Motor Trend had running a slower quarter mile time than a 55 300 with a two-speed trans, 61 fewer cubes and 75 less horsepower. And about two seconds slower in the quarter than every other tester got out of their 58 300's. But guess which test gets cited most often today?

Yeah I thought the numbers were interesting to say the least. Test was done a long time ago and who knows what kind of controls they used.
