:rambo: Hi, I bought a 360 short block and a set of J heads. The engine has a solid cam in it. Can I use a 273 adjustable rocker set on this engine? Sounds like a money saver. thanks :love4: you mopar brother Walt.

Yes, you can. Just make sure you have the proper ball/cup pushrods. And also it's wise to upgrade the adjuster screws. I believe mopar and/or crane or comp sells them, i dont recall off hand. Summits website should sell them, or manciniracing.

I run 273 gear and pushrods in my 340 with no problems...and yes, DO upgrade the adjuster nuts, got mine thorugh mopar(not cheap), or you will be under the valve covers once a week minumum...
make sure the rocker shaft bores and the shafts are not worn out...another good upgrade for this rocker system is the aluminum hold downs, also alvailable from mopar...they keep the shafts round and un-distorted...

ThaNKS TO ALL THAT RESPONDED. i MIGHT BUY THE WHOLE 273 ENGINE AT THE JUNK YARD. iT IS A 65. DO YOU THINK IT HAS A STEEL CRANK? THANKS AGAIN WALT.

The 65 273 should have a steel crank, I say go for it. It'll have the smaller bushed floating rods as well.

 Hi, talked to the guy at the salvage yard and he wants 20.00 for the rockers. He said he would take 150.00 for the engine. these prices are for me pulling them. If the crank is steel it sounds good to me. what do you think about the prices in southwest Pennsylvania? It is a 2barrel car with an auto trany. thanks walt :shaking2:

I paid 100 $ for a '66 2 bbl 273 complete including the trans, starter, distributor, all the engine brackets, pulleys the whole mess and from oil pan to air cleaner. This was at a swap meet about 5-10 years ago, so, maybe your deal is reasonable.

I guess the question becomes if you get the motor what will you use the parts for ? If you have a firm idea go for it.

Its still alot of work to yank the motor out of the car. Cut a deal with the junkyard and have them pull the motor for that price, then its an okay deal in my opinion. About 20 minutes with the hot wrench and their fork lift and voila - motor is out, vs your all day effort, busted knuckles etc.
