Rocker shaft oiling holes

Just pulled my rockers off to replace a bent pushrod in my 440. Now I'm putting it back together and I'm not sure if the oiling holes in the rocker shafts face up or down. I didn't look when I pulled it apart.

Should be pointing straight down.

seems to me the slotted end of the shaft goes to the right hand end of the head and oil holes down.

I always look down the shaft and see which way it will put the holes closer to the bottom by flipping them around both ways.

I think the slot goes to the front of the motor on the left head and towards the rear of the car on the right head of the motor.

IIRC, looking over the fender at the head, the notch always goes to the left side and down.
