They are the Mahle Clevite "CB-481 HN"

One bearing shell is the normal whites gray color on the crank surface. The other half shell is all most black looking surface. on the rod side, of the bearing both half shells are black.

I went on to the Mahle sight and found the bearing, but it don't say anything about the special coating or color.

Any one used these bearing shells and knows which side go's up?

The rod bearings (cb-745 hn) i just install had the same coating
was not used to seeing that
checked with Clevite they said it's just a new coating
( i didn't like the looks of them . the light/dark didn't look right)

The exclusive Clevite 77® TriArmor™ engine bearings
feature the industry’s only moly/graphite treatment.
This sophisticated blend, in a low friction PTFE polymer
base, offers extraordinary protection and lubricity.
Enhanced wear characteristics increase bearing life in race
engines and high performance street engines.

So which way did you install them?......or did you?

Clevite H bearings are stamped upper/lower on the back side. Also the side toward the crank fillet needs to clear so it is obvious if you put them in wrong.
They discoloration you see is normal. Just take a good look to make sure there is no thin spots with copper showing as some slip thru QC sometimes.

2 sets of rod bearings, they were all different shades of color coating

I installed them, not looking at the coating, they are marked upper/lower

Have 5 (1/8 mile) passes on the bearings
we are pulling the engine/ trans tomorrow, for other reasons

to put the body on the rotisserie , while out plan on pulling the pan to look things over

I put my reading glasses on before i started this thread...........guess i should have used then to read the bearing shells

Read standard and a serial number but didn't look close enough:violent1:

Fill real STUPID! now, but thanks for the education!:eek:ops:
