Side clearance has nothing to do with oil pressure and little to with oiling the walls. The only thing that affects that is bearing clearance. If the rod bearing clearances are good for the bearing, and what you're doing - side clearance means almost nothing. I've run .030 before, seen .050 before and it was fine. There's an old adage "Loose is fast". There is some truth to that in terms of side clearance.
