I can even hear it in my brain, I was around too many tow trucks in my younger years.

The diesel idling in high idle, the sound of the hydraulics putting the bed back and down with the thud of the foot hitting the ground, then the whine of the winch and the sound of the chains against the metal top. The J hooks on the lower control arms or the T hook connectors on the frame on the car.

Put a safety chain, turn off the PTO and put it on normal idle and go.

Guessin a roll back will be next project................
I have actually driven a roll back before. Lots of pillows and the seat all the way forward.

It was even a 5 speed. Early 90s chevy with an aluminum roll back bed.

I've also towed before using an old late 70s ford conventional boom wrecker with the wheel lifts.

My friend has a company and he uses a freightliner roll back truck. Dang thing is huge.

I had a choice to add a rollback or a small dump truck for work and support to my properties. Non commercial use. I chose the dump because of better work options for my particular needs. Just too hard for me dumping from the back of a pickup truck.

But if my classic cars could talk? I know they were hoping for the rollback. Lol. But I did add a small open trailer that either the pickup or dump can tow. For a quick car haul. Or lawn equipment.

So still a good year to add work toys.

Rollbacks are cool, but I've always wanted one like this.

That is bad ***. I am really a Ford truck fan but my favorite is the brick nose style. Bullnoses are my close second favorite.

I have a 93 F250 that a tree fell on so the cab is too far gone. I found an 81 cab so Iam going to swap it over to the bullnose style.

I'm guessing it's either an 82,83 or 84 based on the Rosewood dash bezel and ford oval in the grille. I know they changed the woodgrain over the years and 82 was the first year of that rosewood style

Ford trucks did dominate in the 70s thru 90s. (I call the years of the truck.)

Today the choice are different than years past. So I own an '07 Ram 3500 6.7l Cummins Diesel. And now a 1980 F350 dump with 6.9 International diesel.

Can't really compare the diesels. The newer Cummins has more HP with the turbo. Thus much nicer down the freeway. At significant higher top speed. Both similar in low end torque. But guessing Cummins still with the edge. But trucks have different duties. Ram for heavy gooseneck race trailer towing. (Over 14,000 lbs.) Dump for what it does. Carry and dump everything from brush, to rock and scrap. 4000lb box rate. Probably could handle a little more.

I watch for the old school ramp trucks to come up for sale . There was a sweet, old Dodge that recently sold nearby. Needed work, but hopefully the new owner keeps all the old race stickers on the fenders .

prehistoric rollback rolled into irwindale a couple years ago, with the Willys on its back, and a sixties minibike pit putter.
Saw the cabover at a pomona show, thought it was cool.
Edit : per the thread, bought a 57 Jeep FC hot wheels, just yesterday. Wish I had a real one!

This is the one I drove for a few years an Aussie dodge strap back 340 5 speed with 2 speed diff, our heavy truck was a 59 ford y block and we’re building a tilt tray version, the other company I worked for we had f350’s with cradle lift, and our heavy trucks were mine a international transtar with turbo Detroit and 13 speed road ranger and Eaton bogie diffs the other big truck was a Mack model R but there was only one driver for that truck.
