So I have a 904 out of a 68 dart that I rebuilt to install in my 70 dart. I have left to install the valve body which I did change out the rooster comb with a 70's something rooster comb to match up with the 3 prong neutral/park switch. The issue I am having is when I put my valve body on and rotate the shift shaft to the park it does not want to go all the way in to park and the ground tab on the rooster comb does not rotate far enough to ground the park switch. What appears to be happening is that the stop on the comb is hitting the stop on the valve body before the detent ball falls in to place. My question is, is the 68 valve body different then the 70 and later or is the stop on the 70 and later comb different then the 68 comb and if that is the case can i grind down the stop on the comb to allow it to rotate where it needs to for the detent ball to fall in to place on the comb and allow it to rotate enough to ground the switch?

Don't know, not the expert. You sure the park pawl is properly in place? You might get some answers by googling up some VB dealers and see what years etc fit

I guess I should compare the 68 comb which is in the middle one in the pic and the 70 comb which is on the right and see if the detent is the same distance from the front of the stop. The picture is a little deceiving because the one on the right is tilted and yes the park pawl is properly in place the comb stop just hits before it pulls the park rod out as far as it needs to be. I might have to do some clearancing on the comb stop Im thinking.

Governor valve/plug covers are different as well, and so are the castings. That will also interfere with swapping combs. Not sure when the change was made, but here's a '73 vs '67. I've always just changed valve bodies...

I had to change linkage from a 73 vb to a 68 vb when installing the 68vb into the 73 case. The problem I had was that the arm on the linkage. It had nowhere to stop. So I changed the governor plate from the 73 to the 68 vb. I had to grind on two of the bolt holes so the plate would line up with all 5 holes. Hope this helps. Kim

The governor plate needs to be used along with the rooster comb in the swap. You'll have to drill the plate (2 holes) to get it to line up with your current VB.
I just did this.
